Beginning of game wagon bug

Whenever I try to start a new game in Skyrim, I'm riding in the wagon and it all seems fine. Until about halfway to Helgen, then the wagon ride gets a bit... bumpy. By bumpy I mean that the horse pulling the wagon veers off to the left and starts climbing up a cliff. Meanwhile, the wagon is flipping over and going crazy. Then the horse tries to go back onto the path, but instead it goes right between two trees, and the wagon stops moving, therefore I was unable to even start a new game until I got Alternate Start - Live Another Life. I am still unable to do the vanilla starting.

If anyone knows a fix, please help ;-;

I don't know it could be a mod?

Anyway I've also had glitches where it does the Bethesda Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim intro thing but then I'm stuck next 2 the wagon and Ralof is gone everyone is outside the perfectly still wagon and Lokir is talking to himself...

I was having the same problem. I was going through ALL of my mods and even did a complete CLEAN re-install of the game and nothing seemed to work. then I realized there was one Mod that I thought couldn't be causing any problems and I un-installed it and then it worked fine. once I got past Helgen and on my way to Riverwood I stopped saved my game and re-installed the mod. the Mod I'm referring to is the FNIS mod. (Fores New Idles). if you have that installed try removing it and getting past Helgen and then re loading it. also I just tried de-activating it, that doesn't work. you have to do a complete removal of it to keep the carriages from bouncing and or the game from ctd. I hope this helps.

I am finding if you are having problems like these with your game. try working with any animation mods you may have installed. they can cause the Havok game engine to run weird sometimes if they aren't of the original animations in the Skyrim.bsa

The Helgen sequence is heavily scripted - quite a few mods cause problems with it. Get rid of all of the mods except what you need to create your character - most of them don't use scripts and shouldn't cause any problems.

Helgen is supposed to be both an intro - telling you a little about the world, and a tutorial where you have to do certain Scripted things to keep moving. You really don't have any choices that matter during the sequence. No matter which guy you follow you will do the same things in the same sequence. You would have to really work at it to manage to get yourself killed. You are supposed to survive the tutorial. The scripted tutorial ends when you leave the cave - at that point - make a permanent save BEFORE adding any mods - then add your mods, run BOSS to get a reasonable load order and, when you have a working game with mods - make another permanent save. Those 2 saves are your go to saves for troubleshooting later problems.

Disable all mods till you get out of Helgen. I have the same problem. I saved me game just after we get out of the wagon and before you pick ur race. That way whenever I want to start a new game I don't have to do the wagon bug.

Hi,

I know that this post wasn't posted like yesterday, but I just wanted to state something (for future googlers on this topic - like myself).

I just had this problem and after a few minutes of thinking I tried to uninstall this one mod - Helgen Reborn. This mod caused a pretty... amusing start sequence, haha. So for those of you who have this problem AND have the Helgen Reborn mod installed - try to uninstall it first and see. Because if you're like me and has like.... a bunch of mods installed and don't wanna bother uninstalling and reinstalling them all, try this. It worked for me so I just wanted to share this on my number one hit on Google :)

Good luck future WTFers!

if you're running the game at higher than 60fps it will cause the HAVOK engine to spaz out.

Try using vsync or fps limit via your video car drivers :)

If using Helgen reborn, make sure it's disabled when you start a new game and reactivate it when the bandits have moved into it, 3 or 5 days I think it is.

lol. this problem randomly occurs for me. thankfully i have a clean save setup just before character creation. I don't know of any fix, but the FNIS animations causing problems could be true for me, because I have many animation modifications. I've loaded into the clean save and even seen all of the characters stuck, like their animations wouldn't kick in. was kinda wierd, was forced to start from the beginning when that happened, and then it didn't roll on me. the first time had me geeking out because the commentary still happens, and your just rolling down the hill then landed on top of helgen tower where alduin lands and we all got off the wagon on top of the tower then it ctd.
