It isn't AVG, I checked the laptop again and it has AVG installed with the AVG Link Scanner plugin active as well. I am still looking into any causes but at least I have found a work around for now.

Having similar problems over here. Downloads occasionally start as expected - sometimes the page just comes up as raw HTML instead. Sometimes the download starts but never actually progresses anywhere.

When a file does start, sometimes it gets to the end and just stops. It has maybe 5kb to go before turning itself off. I pause it, tell it to resume, but the partially downloaded file deletes itself and the download starts over.

Doesn't happen on other sites, and it doesn't seem to happen on other computers in my network. Not sure what to think.

Edit: When the file pauses at the end, I can choose "copy source URL," paste it, and it redownloads it, instantly completing it. A decent workaround until I know what's up.

What browser are you using?

What OS are you using?

What file[s] are you having trouble with, I personally verify each file withing a day of it being uploaded....they all work for me.

Using multiple browsers, on XP - SP3 current updates.

Firefox 3.0.6, Windows 7 Beta and Windows XP SP3.

Files include, but are not limited to, the alien hybrid race, GNR "More Where That Came From," Vash's Deagle v5, and pretty much every other file I've tried to download in the past couple of weeks. Not that it matters, because I don't think it's really a server issue. Unless there's some bizarre conflict that's suddenly cropped up.

Try a different computer on your connection, if possible. This will tell you if your computer is the problem. It does not have to be able to run the game just download.

Try a different browser, if it works you will know that it is a problem with firefox.

Just went back and noticed this edit:

That kind of sounds like you have autoscan set up for virus/trojans ets......if so you may be having an issue with your virus protection, not initializing properly.

I did a little checking with in bugzilla for a problem I was having loosing log in cookies and found a solution to my problem.....had a power failure while at work and it caused a file corruption in a settings file in my computer/c/documents and settings/micky [my profile name]/application data/mozilla/firefox/vuv7ewcw.default/cookies.sqlite

It was corrupted, I deleted that file and the problem resolved itself on a restart of firefox.

There is also a file in the same folder "downloads.sqlite", which may be your problem, you could try moving it elsewhere and restarting firefox and see if that resolves on a restart of firefox.

If it works great, if not put the old file back. But check bugzilla in any case.

Hope this helps.

I've changed nothing. Problem is gone.

I blame the server upgrades. I don't know what ridiculously minute, completely unforeseeable complication my configuration caused with yours, but it's fixed.

So, yeah, kudos.
