In response to post #8484980.

Impossible to free memory that way, virtual address space is always the same for allocated memory, use proper tools for measuring memory usage, like VMMap (and report results here).

People!

I am a real noob about the delicate mechanics of this but I think I have at least I found some sort of bypass or semi-solution to this problem. Most likely I am missing something and I am totally wrong about this but anyway I think I must share this with you. (Most of you allready know this I guess).

I use this systemcare program called Advanced System Care which have a tool that runs in the background and clear my RAM memory. I can set it to work in the background and it clears it every 30 seconds or so.

After I used this utility I have been running around in the tundra in Whiterun for 10 minutes (where I normally would get 2.800 GM ram usage) and so far Ive never come close to over 0.500GB ram usage. (!!!)

Here is a screenshot of a graph. Follow the yellow line which is RAM. The yellow line drops down (drastically) when I turn on my Advanced System Care utility.

Again, I might be the fool running around with a chicken bone claiming to found a T-Rex in my backyard here, but at least Ive solved the problem for me.

This program has the same effect as cleanmem I guess, I'm using cleanmem myself. But some people describe it as dangerous or placebo effect. WEll all I know is that it works for me, but I'm also eagerly awaiting Boris solution on the whole 3.1gb limit issue. This would make you a god Boris

I understand. I will try to do that.

However I was struggling with crashes because of hitting the memory wall all the time yesterday. Today I havent experienced that at all since I started to use the utility. That should count for something at least. But if this has side effects I am not aware of, then please do tell.

What is your OS? The only idea come to mind is that something radically changed in Win8 (don't believe in fairytales) and you are the owner, otherwise i'm sceptic regarding this solution. I'll try to research what could be if you right, may be game allocate memory, but never use it (at start up it acting like that). Memory addresses for allocated blocks are the same and not movable, so any generic utils can only flush everything to swap file to free up physical ram memory, perfomance could be higher (less lagging, not instant fps).

Its Windows 7 64bit like most others. Yes its maybe a good idea to look into software which is intended to clear the ram. You are the expert on these matters. I just tried it and it seemed to work.

In response to post #8475061. #8475650, #8475860, #8476388, #8476512, #8477629 are all replies on the same post.

this only helps with VRAM, as lesser mipmaps are used but the main texture file is still in RAM and the only way to reduce the memory usage is to ask Chris2012 why did he leave millions of unused alpha-channels is his Whiterun HQ mod that get ppl banned for their lifetimes

Hey, just throwing this out there, .... I have a ton of mods and my game ctd's as described in this thread. In frustration pressing every button on my key board, I have found that by pressing the "windows" key ( 2 keys left of the space bar on my keyboard) a couple times and then clicking the skyrim icon on the task bar, it would bring my game back right where it crashed from as though I had only paused it, and I can continue on like nothing happened. This is obviously not fixing anything, but at least you can progress through the game without having to reload and redo everything from your last save. After I do this, it wont crash again for quite a while usually. now I can play for a few hours and it will only crash 2, sometimes 3 times.

I'm a little bit new to PC gaming in general, so hopefully this wasn't a noob comment and at least helps some people to stop troubleshooting for a bit and just play this awesome game with all the mods you've worked so hard to make.

Thanks everyone for their tips and ideas in trying to solve this issue.

Well, fixed bugs in memory fix, but it's temporary working only for NVidia cards (not much AMD testers yet). Grab ENBSeries 0.192 and set ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true in it.
Good luck!

I will do this. I have AMD but I will do it anyway.

Maybe a noob question but I can put that line under [FIX] in enbseries.ini right?
