BTW: Changing Texture Quality in the Skyrim Launcher from High to Medium drops you down like 800 MB of memory, at least it did for me. I couldnt live with the reduction in grahpics. Maybe you can.

I use way too many mods and even more textures and have been going crazy with ctd and infinite loading screens. I can say with complete certainty that it crashes everytime it gets near 3.1 gb of ram. I've been using Texture Optimizer to not only convert them to dtx1c but to resize them as well (which makes me wonder why I downloaded the Ultra textures to begin with. Oh well, 20/20). My question is, as I'm once again downsizing my 2048 folder to 1024, do enbs have an affect on ram usage or is it mainly the size of the textures. I always max out the settings of the enbseries file (setting aa to -1, for example) and am trying to decide if I'm better off in terms of resizing textures or loosening up the settings on the enb. I've finally gotten to the point that I'm just hitting the 3.1 barrier and trying to just downsize slightly so right now I'm torn between which is going to make it playable while still looking as good as I can possibly get it, given the limitations. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

if you have 4GB of ram -> iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2000000000
if you have 6GB of ram -> iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=3000000000
if you have 8GB of ram -> iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=4000000000
IT SHOULD HELP ???

Could also this be related to this problem or a Vram limit or something totally unrelated?

After reading through this thread a few days ago while experiencing freezes and CTDs I rebuilt my preferred game without HD, Hi-Res, and distant enhancing mods. Before I was blaming scripted and complicated mods for tripping over each other but now I see that it was a matter of too much data and too little VRAM.
Frostfall, Wet & Cold, Hunting in Skyrim, Skyrim Redone, The Choice is Yours, Civil War Overhaul, Organized Bandits, Corners of Skyrim, Camps and Camp Users, More Travelers, Wearable Lanterns, as well as many more will play well together but only when;
- You have a game plan for incorporating the mods you want versus the ones you could live without.
- Using that plan and building a base of mods then adding, benchmarking, and deciding if that mod is worth the VRAM and CPU cycles.
- Building layers of mods and testing that combination (Mod Organizer is very useful for this).
- Textures are kept to a minimum as well as optimized.
- Updates and mods are cleaned using TES5edit.
- Mods are patched using either posted patches or suggestions such those found on Neovalen's STEP project and elsewhere.
- BOSS is used but only as a starting guide.
- TES5edit is used to see what mods modify others and you manually change your own load order to adjust for it (BUM is useful here).
- Performance Monitor and other tools are used while benchmarking as well as playing your first few hours.
Simply repeating what one finds on all the Skyrim user sites but it's worth stressing - One must choose between an extremely complicated game or an extremely beautiful game or somewhere in between but not both ends of the spectrum. It's either brains or beauty. Some cuteness and some smarts. ( I'll pass on making analogies.
)
My new working load order without all the HD, Hi-Res, and other not needed (for my needs) mods and enhancements.
Thanks everyone, here and elsewhere, for all the great tips and help!
