 I hope I haven't missed an explanation. But I  have the three amulet parts, and I was told to forge them into the original. Snag is how do I do that? I can't even take them out.

you do not need them to forge yourself

 your quest marker should point to a cave near markath where the amulet will be restored  after ...well  if you find the cave   you will know

Many thanks found the cave and did what was needed. But it left more worries. How do I activate the eye of Megus,? where do I go next and why as the amulet disappeared from my inventory. Problem after problem. But hanks for the help.

you should find the amulet back in one piece on the table after you defeated all 3 ghosts

 

the staf of magnus is a quest related item  for the college of winterhold  quest line  and should be clear how and how  to use it in the final of that quest line tolfdir will tell you
