I haven't played in a while, but I distinctly remember not having this problem before.

When first talking to Divayth Fyr about it, he mentions the dwarven artifact. No matter which response I give him (give him the coherer or just show it to him), he just says it again, giving me the same two options. no way out of the dialogue...

has anyone had this problem before? anyone know how i can fix it?

well, i ended up getting around it by cheating. i dropped the artifact on the ground set his disposition to 100 (actually, it only got to 85 for some reason...), then he was all peachy - didn't need to give him the artifact. it's strange though - never happened before. i'm using some mods, but mostly are texture replacers, lighting effects, and bugfixes (like the morrowind unofficial patch which combines most of the bug fixing mods).
oh, and the official plugins too

anyway, i don't need help with this anymore, but if anyone else has had this problem, it'd be interesting to know why it happened.
