My char developed into real vampire hunter. He wanted to be a battlemage but since he developed mainly in a warrior ways thinking about magic in future he had to abandon his mage like ambitions as life proved to be harsh place and not allowing for every fancy dream to come true. Generally I wanted to get comfortable with heavy armor, one handed and block at first so I have some backup plan and start using magic as soon as possible but I noticed I can't deal much damage with fundamental, heavy cost due to armor weight spells so I called upon what was supposed to be only backup skillset and used that instead. I'm now at lvl 24, about 70 skill in heavy armor, 50 in block, about 40+ one handed, 50+ alchemy, 25+ restoration, 45+ enchanting, now I added crossbow into weapons on choice. Im using mace of molag bal and spellbreaker in melee or against mages I have to engage in melee. If I can take something down from afar I use crossbow now.

I have been thinking on this build for 1.8:
Nord: 2H, Light Armor, Alchemy, Block and Destruction (just runes).
I tried something like this in 1.7 in low and mid levels and I really had fun with it, but do you think it's playable at high levels?
I usually prefer to go alone without companions, so maybe I'd add two perks in Conjuration for aggro and a few into Archery.
My main fear is defense at high levels for a melee character but I definitely hate Heavy Armor, Smithing and Enchanting.

Ok so last time I posted on this was in 1.7.3 so here we go with an updated build list of mine for 1.8.1 keep in mind this is the way I am creating these builds along with my favored races. It's really just a generalization but can be built upon at a later time, I didn't add a "spellsword" cause I've done that so many times while a lot of people confuse Batlemage for a spellsword I created what I think a Battlemage really is. Also I really only made enough "mage" type builds to compliment each element and typically in my mind spellsword works wonders with fire.. anyways enjoy

I want to start the game with a female Imperial character as a Mystic Knight
. She can use fluently one-hand katana, and the other hand is for magic that can destroy enemy from distance, my character will mainly stick with light armor (if she use the katana more) / robes ( for magic). She can create potions to sell or for her own, enchant her katana with powerful enhancement. That is just what I think, no in-game build yet, I would like to receive any suggestion, what perks should I take, how should I spend my attribute points, etc.

Invest early on your armor and main weapons skills, magic can wait (you need money anyway). I have the same build but more magic/speechcraft focused since I'm a vampire. Since you will use light armor and or robes. Go for mage armor, make sure you have a lot of magika if you will use summons.
Heavy armored targets can destroy with one hit. If you saw one, dual cast frost and run around them, use a mace, distract them with a ghostly wolf make, sure you never close to them.
I advice a mix of robes and light armor to get the best defense and magicka pool.

If you go for Mage Armor spells, you can just as well abandon light armor: the Improved Mage Armor perk in Alteration makes all Mage Armor spells 2.5 times stronger, as long as you only wear clothes. Without armor, all spells costs drop significantly as well. The only down sides are:
- The need to enchant your own boots and gloves, because the game has very few enchanted versions of those.
- The need to cast an armor spell to be protected.

Hey guy I just wanted to share a little about my current build and maybe get some feedback and answers to some questions.
Currently I'm playing a custom race, Ningheim as a female full spell caster her base stats are 110/M 120/H 120/S 125/CW. She is a Mage/Divine Priestess with primary focus in restoration magic, destruction magic and enchanting. I went with enchanting so I could enchant her clothes and rings with buffs later on as I won't be using any armor in this build.
I also have a few mods to help better diversify her as a holy priestess.
I'm currently using a mod called Forgotten Magic Redone which is a mod that adds several new spells but also has its own schools of magic, system. I'll be mostly using the Paladin school. The spells of that school I'll be looking to use will be: Holy Light, Holy Bolt and maybe Holy Armor.
I also have a mod called Craftable Scrolls, that allows me to craft the scrolls that you would find sometimes in dungeons and dead mages, right at the tanning rack, of course if you have the required ingredients that is. I use this mod to craft oakflesh that grants 75 armor rating for 300sec which is good against the occasional stray bandit or wolf attack which allows me to take at least one or two more hits before being killed. I also craft the scroll "Summon familiar" (or ghostly wolf) I've also taken the mage standing stone for additional Magica (up to 100/M) for a little more sustainability when casting spells.
also has anyone use the future that allows you to enchant and make your own staff? If so how does that work? I was reading about that in the Requiem manuel.

I see your faith in the Oak Flesh spell is strong, which befits a priestess of course
.
To craft a mage staff you need at least the two basic perks in Enchanting and follow the right-handed branch for perks that allow for stronger staffs. You also need:
- An unenchanted two-handed battle staff (see the recipes at the forge)
- The correct smithing perk (Craftmanship for wooden and steel staffs)
- A pre-filled soulgem (not one you filled yourself)
Go to the forge, select the correct category, check if you have all ingredients and craft the staff

Wonderful and I was hoping to not invest in crafting oh well lol thanks, now to work this into a suitable roleplay a priestess who knows her way around a forge!

On second thought, I'm not sure about the necessity of the smithing perks. It could be you can craft staffs without smithing perks, as long as you have a suitable staff in your inventory.
On the other hand, besides iron and steel battle staffs, you wont see many others in the game. I know of exactly one silver staff that can be found. All others, like wooden, elven or daedric staffs, should probably be crafted. So if you plan to make staffs yourself (and there will be very good ones, which can also be sold for good profit), smithing is almost a requirement.
