Nvidia: best cards on the market right now?

I've actually never had any problems with Nvidia cards. I haven't owned enough AMD cards to testify on their behalf.

 

Both AMD and Nvidia make strong cards, the tradeoff is that AMD cards are faster in raw horsepower, but Nvidia cards are more powerful with newer effects like tessellation, DX11, and obviously PhysX. 

That's why Nvidia cards get superior performance in games like Metro LL or Borderlands 2, even though AMD cards perform more efficiently in games like Skyrim.

 

 

That said, an R9 290 is a full generation apart from a 780.

You should be comparing an 880 to an R9 290. I have little doubt that Nvidia will still be ahead as games use more advanced effects more often.

 

Personally, I think Thor should wait for the Titan Ultra to release. The fact that it'll be releasing near a 790 implies that the Titan Ultra will be midway between 690 and 790 performance, which would put any other single card (AMD or Nvidia) of the next generation to shame.
