Hi guys I have a stuttering problem with skyrim.

When I walk around the skyrim open map (I dont fasttravel) it runs very smoothly I always get around 60 fps (Vsync) and the game runs nice. But then there are moments, as I walk around (or ride by horse), I got sometimes these annoying stutters. The game freezes for 3-6 seconds and then it is again smoothly playable. I noticed that this is happening when I move and new parts of the map are loaded or in the near of script involving events like fighting/hostile NPC's.

I am not using any ENB just 2k Textures(lite version) and the static mesh Improvement Mod and the official Highres DLC along with some armor texture mods. I also watched the VRAM usage using the afterburner tool and as a result the card uses at max 1800 MB and is max 60% in usage.

My system is a gtx 760 2048 MB, a intel i7 2700k @3.5GHZ , 8GB Ram and a old HDD.

Now my question: should I buy a SSD because i think all my other pc components should be able to run these few texture mods and my only crappy part is the hard disk. Will this fix my stutters ?

Please help me guys and Thanks a lot :)

My Skyrim machine also has older drives (5,400 rpm) and gave me stutters outside during new cell loads. Not for 3-6 seconds, but annoying enough I've been working on the problem. I've pretty much eliminated the stutters by using a ramdisk (from AMD) for the most used textures and splitting other bsa files across two hard drives, which lowers disk access queue lengths. So, yes, an old HDD can cause perceptiple issues in Skyrim.

3-6 seconds seems like a long time. Are you sure its cell loads and not Windows doing something in the background or an Anti-Virus program running amok? Even Steam will put on a sudden load if you have community enabled while playing. Try it in offline mode. I know that MSE thinks files pulled from a bsa need "checking"; that was causing me actual lag, not just stutter. I exempted Skyrim from a/v checking to stop that one.

Skyrim on an SSD certainly smoothes the game out. IF a drive issue is causing stutter, it would most likely fix it. If its not a disk issue...

You could try running in windowed mode with task manager and resource monitor up to see if any background processes are interfering.

hi ty for the answer.I am running Steam and a Anti-Virus software in the background so I will try to disable them. But other than that i dont have anything other running in the background. I have seen on youtube benchmarking my graphicscard and he is using Enbs and a lot of more graphical mods and he has no stutter. i have also more ram and a better processor than he but my hdd sucks.
I have read that by replacing the ssd helped a lot to some people but then again other said that it didnt help. I can run cod, battlefield, crysis 3 ( not on ultra but high) without any stutters. So is it just the way Skyrim works? I mean it cant be the graphicscard or the mainboard or can I be wrong.
The graphicscard runs always on 65 % while playing skyrim.
If it is the hdd I am going to buy a SSD today.

pls help me
Thanks
