When I first started playing, I bought the xbox version.

That was a big mistake. (TES is not a console game at all)

It'd be nice if you could at least install mods, like in unreal tournament.

It is a console game, maybe not on xbox but it was the best PS3 game i had!

The PC one is evidently better, but theres nothing wrong with the PS3 version.

After beating the game with my battlemage, I decided to try playing a warrior who doesn't like magic. figured that if I could play non-magical characters in Morrowind, I could do the same in Oblivion. WRONG!

That warrior character is an utter failure. I still haven't gotten back to finishing the Fighters Guild quest with him. He doesn't wear magic armor or jewelry, he won't use magic weapons (and can't soul-trap anyway.) He doesn't use scrolls. He is not an alchemist. He planned on just using healing potions like in Morrowind, but here they are really really expensive, and the stores are usually out-of-stock. So my character had to abandon his principles and go buy stronger healing spells. But since he devoted all his points to warrior-type attributes when leveling up, he doesn't have enough magicka to heal himself, and his magicka regeneration rate is too low. He basically gets thrashed in battle, and has to sit down and recover for five minutes of real-world time before the next encounter. He started devoting points to Willpower and Intelligence, but now it is too late. He is of such a high level that it takes forever to advance one more level and get a small improvement in magical ability.

i did this recently. I saw it was a mistake when my warrior was lvl 15. Since then i boosted his inteligence by using conjuration and mysticism since he had like less that 10 points in them. Now at level 34 with a full daedrc set, od whic each piece is enchanted to provide him additional mana or iteligence, he tured out to be a great magician. And became arch-mage just by the way. it's not imposible to "turn" your charater. It takes a lot of time but it was fun.

My big problem is the curiosity to those locked doors that can't be unlocked unless I have a key. When I completed a Mages Guild quest, I had the Necromancer's Amulet, but I didn't want to give it to the mage whom I had to give it away to. I really liked the amulet (hey, I'm a girl! :3 ), so I found out the "Unlock" cheat, and unlocked the Orrery, and when I entered, there was nothing! I felt that I was rickrolled

There was nothing in the orrery?
I'm guessing you don't have the required DLC then right?

There are a few doors that are just for decoration.
Like one in the room before the one the Emperor dies in.

Went off Skingrad, traveled a little bit... jumping and running across the beautiful lands... Enjoying the view... and... suddenly fell from a cliff.

I took almost TWO WEEKS PLAYING to discover that you can scroll down the conversation topics with your mouse wheel.

And i just recently discovered (i'm almost making 55 hours of game with my other character, and 33h with the first one) that... you can hotkey weapons and magic.

Funniest enough, i assaulted the Imperial Palace (in the Ultimate Heist) only with 2 lockpicks (i forgot all the other ones in my house, god damn roleplay).
That meant A LOT OF SAVES AND LOADS.

Only after finishing the Thieves and Mages Guilds questline, i ran across the Nocturnal's Shrine and got the Skeleton Key.

And i was like "aww man... Ultimate Heist would be SO MUCH EASIER..."

That's not a newbie thing, but (for some reason) i usually challenge myself and try to pick arrows shot against me before they reach my body. Which is pretty impossible.

In the end of the Main Quest, i tried to take Mehrune Dagon down with my battle axe. And failed. Twice.

And the biggest one: When travelling across the lands, i ran into some kind of empty farm. I entered it (didnt knew that the "red door" icon means ASSAULT) and found a Parchment (a stupid piece of paper). I grabbed it to further analysis. But that's technically stealing from the farm (stealing a unused piece of paper, man!).

When i tried to talk with an Imperial Legion guard, he said "STOP! You violated the law!" and i first met the jail.

Because of a clean piece of paper, in a empty farm, in the middle of NOWHERE.

I was XBOX 360 for my character.

I beat the game with my 3rd character, because the first two didnt fly.

I was a female Dark Elf. I set my skills to Alchemy, Speechcraft, Mercentile, Sneak, Security, Conjuration & restoration.

No Fighting skills...

Got to a point where I needed to fight he was so weak, and I was leveling up so I was like 15th level, I can make a great potion but if a Lion attacked me I was DEAD... I couldnt out run him I couldnt fight him. So I dithced that player.

Then I went completely stealth which was fine but again when it came to battle, which the main quest line is VERY HEAVY in... I couldnt keep up with these creatures.

Finally I built an assassin / fighter that leveled with block and bow and blade. I could then compete with the other monsters.

Also it doesnt make much sense to pick ANYTHING other then LORD for the Sign... getting that 90 points of health is essential to me especially early on.

* also I was still in "morrowind" mode and I would be carrying plates and stuff around for a while, and went to sell them and it was asking if I wanted to GIVE THEM AWAY... I was like WTF? I realized they were not worth anything so I was over burdened all the time.

Having like Alchemy, Mercentile, Speechcraft, etc as a main skill is a huge mistake, it will level you, but really weakens you in the grand scheme of things. You can build them away from the main skills, a cool challenge all by itself, while keeping your character strong enough for the monsters (I only play at 60% difficulty - 50% is too easy for the most part)

Jump against the sigil stone instead of just grab it... (my first horrible death)

Step on one of the wooden bridges over an abyss for the second time just for curiosity... (my second horrible death)

Tying to do the Battle for Castle Kvatch at lvl 30... (my third horrible death)

Killing a town guard and gain bounty because I saw her at the distance wearing glass armor and I thought she was a bandit (after that I never discrimine by appearances xD)

On Oblivion, running for my life through undiscovered places instead of fall back to the gate... I ended up with like 20 daedra behind me xD

This was an accident. Block an ogre attack with a cliff behind me... I had the bad luck of being knocked back xD

Getting naked in front of a bunch of guards because I got a second point of infamy while wearing the Crusader's Relics (I didn't know that would happen LOL)

Jumping from a mountain by mistake while evading an enemy xD

Sinking on an underwater cave because I forgot to keep an eye onto the oxygen bar xD

Trying to swim to the other side of a lava river LOL

These are such fun to read! Took me awhile to figure out the scroll bar for convos as well. Who knows what I missed before, lol Biggest mistake moving from MW to OB was thinking I wanted armorer for a major skill, and alchemy. I was good at both in MW, didn't even hit me until I read somewhere that those skills are ones you tend to naturally increase if used a lot. Wasted two major skill choices on those when I could have picked something better.

Stealing like a big dog in OB thinking I was going to be able to sell everything like I did in MW. Uh....no, lol

Took a loooong time to realize I could use the "z" to grab things and arrange them. I was po'd cause I thought I wouldn't be able to decorate my houses like in MW. I still say MW's method was way easier. How many times have I toppled a whole shelf trying to get one thing just right, or come back later to find everything put itself back in its original position after I spent hours moving them!

In MW I never needed potions to heal, had the magic and alchemy skills to not need them. In OB took my fast butt into an Oblivion Gate with few potions and almost lost my life! Since then, I carry a minimum of 15 on me.

I'm sure there's more faux pas I can't remember, lol Seems like I've been playing both games for an eternity. Ahhh those newbie days when everything was soooo cool cause you hadn't seen it or weren't used to it yet. I still like a calming walk in the woods, or star gazing on a clear night. That wind in the willows effect and starry sky will never get old.
