In fact, it's sitting in my cart at Amazon. What drew me up short was when I thought about the games I play now, and wondering how the higher resolution will work. Skyrim, I imagine, can accommodate the higher resolution from my 1080p now, but what about older games like Fallout: NV or even FO3 ( I'll never stop playing it!) Are those games capable of the higher resolution, or will I have to find a work-around for them?
I was thisclose to buying a 1440p monitor

Most PC games also support arbitrary resolution, directly or indirectly, but may lack AR correction, which isn't an issue for 2560x1440.
Really if your game supports 16:9 without distortion, it's most likely to support 2560x1440 as well. Manual config or registry edits may be required.

Any game that supports 16:9 resolutions like 1920x1080 should also support resolutions up to 2560x1440.
In order for a game that supports widescreen resolutions to *not* support 1440p, it would have to be deliberately disabled, which almost never happens. I can only think of a couple games... Possibly Dark Souls (without DSfix) and Fire Warrior. There might be others, but they're so rare it's probably not worth worrying about. I've tested Skyrim and Fallout 3 myself, they both support 1440p.
Keep in mind, even your 680 will struggle in some games at 1440p.

Sorry for the resurrection, but I wanted to share my experience with the 1440p monitor I purchased.
Morrowind, with the Overhaul mod collection installed, originally gave me trouble with the resolution. I installed a fix for it, but it only displayed @1920x1440. I played it at that resolution a couple times, but when I was showing a friend how good the games looked on this monitor, I fired up Morrowind and voila!, 2560x1440 arrived.
So, for the most part, Old hand and Grossly Incandescent were correct; every other game displayed correctly right off the bat. Thanks for the push to buy. I'm happy as can be. Skyrim @ 1440p is like a religious experience! heh. Now I'll be shopping for a 780 or equivalent, because Crysis really makes my 680 sweat, now.
