I limit my games to 30 fps in Nvidia Inspector. However, with the last few Nvidia drivers, vsync is completely disabled if I use the framerate limiter. It doesn't work at all.

 

 

I have a couple requests.

Can somebody who uses Nvidia Inspector please test the framerate limiter and see if vsync works for them with the limiter at 30 fps?

Is there any way to just set my monitor to a refresh rate of 30hz rather than 60hz?

Does anyone know a framerate limiter that I could use as an alternative to Nvidia Inspector?

Stop using a framerate limiter. Why do you need it in the first place?

Especially since you can use Vsync (half refresh rate) for that.

 

Afterburner doesn't do framerate limiters.

I use a framerate limiter because I'd rather have a stable cap at 30, and be able to put games on ultra.

 

Vsync at half the refresh rate causes a lot of mouse lag. That's not going to work. :/

Mindlessly clicking "ultra" is just a lazy way to save a dozen minutes on optimizing the settings - which, with GTX660, should put you above 50fps anywhere, so you won't need a framerame limiter in the first place. Which sounds like it will take you more than a dozen minutes to get working again. 

 

Just saying. Surely the satisfaction of "my rig can play ultra" is tainted enough by the "but at 30fps" qualifier, and in terms of image quality, correctly optimizing the settings will only cause imperceptible changes, not to mention higher framerate is an IQ improvement in itself. Morrowind notwithstanding, but it's got its own limiter. Battlefield, Crysis, all the big names, there's no case where a 660 won't handle IQ too close to max to worry.

 

With response to the original question, if NVI's limiter doesn't work, I doubt any other will, since it's about the most robust implementation. I haven't checked them out in quite a while, though.

I actually don't have a preference of 60 fps over 30 fps. They look "different" to me, but not better or worse. I'd like to keep it that way, since I still play my PS2 and PS3 regularly, as well as bad PC ports with a fixed 30 fps cap. The system requirements will go up due to the launch of the PS4 and Xbone as well, so I'd prefer to remain acclimatized to 30 fps, rather than having to struggle to hit 45-60 fps in next gen titles.

Anyway, my reasons for wanting a 30 fps cap aren't really relevant.

 

This question can be considered answered, since I was able to find the RivaTuner Statistics Server, and that allows me to cap my framerate at anything while keeping vsync.
