I have just finished a mod called PlasmaShield, I just wondered if it is possible to add an animated surface to it? like the pixel shader water, or something else to add a real Plasma Effect? Anyone who knows how to do things like this?

I would recommend looking at the textures for the various Sheild effects, and see how they are done. (The 3rd person ones, not first person)

In game, when you (or someone else) cast a shield spell, it causes an animated mesh to appear around you. However, I have no clue how this is done. I don't know it .TGA or .DDS files even support animation, but if they do, that's the way to do in.

Thanks you for the info Abramul, I will look around for someone who know how to do this, as you said, it might be possible to take the Shield spell effect and attatch it to the mesh, but what do I know, Im just a Newbie at stuff like this

I took it, that you wanted an animated effect attached to the surface of
the shield itself, something like a shimmering of tiny lightnings or stars
continually running across the surface, right? And no, I don't have any
experience either, but I would be interested in the solutions

the best effect that would make sense on a 'plasma shield' would be that the like blob things move around.
isnt there an option in 3Dsmax to get animation bits just by changing it each frame or something. The guy to ask would be peregrine, only because he knows the ways of modeling and probably animation..

Yes, but frame by frame animation like that would be used for animating an object's motion. For an animated shield like that, you'd want to use an animated texture on the object. Unfortunately, I have no idea how you'd do that, since the texture formats Morrowind supports do not allow animation.

Ok, thanks for the info Peregrine and Gilbert! But cant you add like a chrome/Reflective/gloss effect to the shield in 3D max? I have sen some weapon/armor mods that kinda reflect the light sources around them, and have like a chromed surface that shines like real metal! that cool!
