I am not sure quite what the title of the post has to do with the content.
You can kill Vivec if you wish he is not essential to completing the game if you use the second way of doing the main quest.
You can only kill Dagoth Ur by destroying the Heart of Lorcan and that needs two artifacts, Sunder and Keening, that you cannot wield without a third artifact called wraithguard (unless you are doing some serious cheating). Wraithgaurd can be obtained from Vivec during the main quest - he gives it to you. After this he plays no significant part in the game IIRC. Alternatively you can kill Vivec and take the 'dwemer artifact' on his corpse to Yagrum Bagarn to get it properly enchanted. Either way, once you have the wraithguard killing Dagoth Ur will be the end of it.
Neither Vivec nor Yagrum have further quests for you.
Does this answer your question?

Yeah I had the same question a while back. Basically no matter what you will always get the message box saying "you have severed the ....." Like Malchik said it doesn't matter.
Also, if I may make a suggestion, try using the search option at the bottom of a forum page, it can save you the time of waiting for someone to post.
