Stabilization and Optimization Guide by tony971
Version 1.0

These processes will solve (many) CTDs, bugs, and low FPS issues.
BACKUP EVERYTHING FIRST.

MAKING SURE YOUR SETTINGS ARE CORRECT

Any steps for Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) users only are in YELLOW.
Any steps for Mod Organizer (MO) users only are in ORANGE.

1. Make sure Climates of Tamriel and Climates of Tamriel - Weather Patch fog edition (NOT SERENETY ENB) are installed.
2. Open the Skyrim menu through Steam.
2. Run Skyrim Launcher through MO.
3. In the options section, turn off Antialiasing, Anisotropic Filtering, and FXAA. (in the advanced section)
4. In your video driver, set the features from step 3 and SSAO to application controlled. Only do this for Skyrim.
5. Download ewi65’s ini settings here. (Unless you have a high end GPU, go with ugrids 5.)
6. Extract, open, and set the following values:

SKYRIM.INI
[General]
sLanguage=ENGLISH <-- change to your language
[Grass]
iMinGrassSize=30 <-- Grass on Steroids users change to 75 for best look, 100-128 for no performance loss
**If you use the memory allocation patch under "FOR SKSE AND 64 BIT OS USERS ONLY", you can set uGridsToLoad higher than 7. The distant view will look better, but it's a performance hog. Just be sure to finish this article for other settings you need to do so.

SKYRIMPREFS.INI
[Display]
iSize H=1080 <-- change to your screen height
iSize W=1920 <-- change to your screen width
sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780" <-- change to your card

7. Move these files to Documents/My Games/Skyrim. Overwrite when asked.
7. Move these files to Mod Organizer/profiles/(your profile--probably Default). Overwrite when asked.
8. Set your ini files to read only by selecting properties in the right click menu.
9. Download and install Particle Patch All-in-One and Subsurface Scattering Patch from here.
(You can install the compressed archives using the install from file function of your mod manager.)

GENERAL BUG FIXING

EVERYONE pay attention to the notes in YELLOW.

1. Download BOSS, TES5Edit, and Wrye Bash.
*If you use MO, you have to run these within MO. To do this, click on the gears icon in the toolbar. Select their respective .exe files as the binaries and enter the name of the program as the title. You can now run these programs like you would SKSE or Skyrim.
2. Run BOSS with "Show BOSS Log On Completion" checked.
3. Go to the "Recognized Plugins" tab of the results and find out which mods BOSS recommends to clean with TES5Edit.
4. Run TES5Edit and leave everything checked. Make sure that it doesn't have any errors loading them all.
*If it does, you probably have a mod that you shouldn't be using. Find out which it is, get rid of it, and run BOSS again.
5. Close TES5Edit.
6. Run TES5Edit again and ONLY CHECK THE FIRST MOD IN THE LIST THAT BOSS SAYS NEEDS CLEANING.
*Other mods will load with it. This is normal.
7. When it loads, right click the mod that needs cleaned and select "Apply Filter for Cleaning."
8. Right click again and select "Remove 'Identical to Master' Records." (Yes, you're sure.)
9. Right click again and select "Undelete and Disable References."
10. Close TES5Edit and save. (No, I didn't mess up the order on that. The save dialog pops up when you hit the close button.)
11. Repeat steps 4-8 for each mod that needs cleaning. DO NOT DO MORE THAN ONE MOD AT ONCE.
12. Re-run BOSS and check for any more tips other than Bash Tag suggestions. Obey all of them.
13. Run Wrye Bash and find "Bashed Patch, 0.esp."
14. Right click on it and select "Rebuild Patch..."
15. Skip the step about disabling mods first.
16. Uncheck "Merge Patches."
17. Click "Build Patch" and close Wrye Bash.
*BOSS will still give you Bash Tag suggestions after this. Don't worry, what you did in Wrye Bash fixed these. BOSS just likes to keep these suggestions there.

*You'll have to repeat the GENERAL BUG FIXING guide each time you add or remove a mod but you'll see a lot less CTDs and bugs.

SKSE AND 64 BIT OS USERS ONLY
This fix is meant to be a replacement for Safety Load.
1. Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim.
2. Download this patched skse_steam_loader.dll and replace the stock one.
3. Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data/ and see if you have an SKSE folder with an SKSE.ini file inside. If you have them, add these lines to the ini:

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048
[NotPlacebo]
GiveFirstBornToSheson=1
MemBlock1=512 <-- 768 if your ugrids are higher than 7
MemBlock2=256 <-- 512 if your ugrids are higher than 7

If you don't have an SKSE.ini file, install this archive with your mod manager.
*If you set your ugrids above 7 unpack this archive, add 256 to each MemBlock in the ini, archive it again, and install.
4. Verify that this mod works by checking the skse_steam_loader.log in Documents/My Games/Skyrim/SKSE. It should say "Sheson took your first born in exchange for more memory"
*If you don't get this message and you use MO, one of your mods probably uses their own SKSE.ini file that overwrites this one. Find it in Mod Organizer/mods/(your mod) and add in the above lines.

FPS BOOST / VRAM REDUCER

To gain a few FPS and avoid maxing out your RAM, there's a couple tricks that work pretty well.

Optimize your textures using Optimizer Textures. The quality difference is negligible and saves a lot of work for your GPU.
*MO users, you have to add your Mod Organizer/mods directory to the Last_Folder list in "Ordenador.ini". Select this directory from the drop down menu when you run the program. You don't have to run this program through MO.

*EDIT: Though Optimizer textures can run in this directory, it will get hung up on ini files. I'm trying to find a away around this. If you still want to use this program with MO, you have to direct it to each mod's data folder.

SKSE USERS ONLY
Download TESV Acceleration Layer and install using your mod manager.
*This mod conflicts with ScriptDragon.

64 BIT OS USERS ONLY
Set the following values:

ENBLOCAL.INI
[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true
DisableDriverMemoryManager=false
DisablePreloadToVRAM=false
EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false
ReservedMemorySizeMb=XXX <--512 if you have at least a gtx 660 or radeon 7870, 256 if you don't.
VideoMemorySizeMb=XXXX <-- RAM+VRAM-2048. 1GB=1024. The max is 10240.
EnableCompression=false <-- My preference. It actually uses more memory but reduces stuttering.
AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false

SKYRIM.INI
uExterior Cell Buffer= XX <-- (uGridsToLoad+1)^2
iPreloadSizeLimit=XXXXXXXXX <-- (uGridsToLoad*1024)^2

MOST COMMON PROBLEMS

1. Optimus cards confuse ENB. Look at the Installation Guide article to find out how to get around this.
2. "The sun shines through mountains!...MOUNTAINS!!" - Yep. It does. MAYBE you can fix it by using the injector. An injector guide is included in the Installation Guide article.
3. SLI doesn’t play well with ENB. Turn it off if you're having issues. (Yes, even you, Titan users)
4. If you use OneTweak, you have to set BWmode to 2 in its ini file. You can find it in Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data/SKSE/Plugins or Mod Organizer/overwrite/skse/plugins if you're a MO user.
5. If you see black sun beams indoors, it's from the Particle Patch. Try using this old version instead.

In response to post #11310132.

I don't know how to thank you. I wanted to try the warzone mod of Immersive Patrols but each time the game crashed when loading all NPC's when I got a "decent" rig (i7 860 OC @ 3.3 ghz + 8 GO Ram + GTX 770 Phantom 4go VRAM)

So I couldn't understand why the crashes. Well it was the enblocal.ini which was badly calculated. I've set it right according to your math and since then NOT A SINGLE CRASH. Even in warzone that I'm now running with a ugrid=7. (Most of warzone mod ask for a ugrid 5 to avoid overload, but that's bullsh*t with a decent rig)

Anyway many thanks, I can now gladly enjoy warfares all around Skyrim.
