Throwing around the idea of making a socket quest type of dealie, (Diablo2) and also adding in Norse Runewords and Gems and new items in which to socket them with. This could further branch out into new classes, new characteristic traits and many new items. I was curious what the public thought of this if it were to be made... If it could be made...

I havent gotten into coding THAT much, but it sounds feasable, but extreeeeeeem amounts of testing due to the immense amount of possibilities that socketing items involves, i couldnt do it, thats for sure :(

might i also add that the way to go about it would seem kind of silly, at least how im thinking.

<_< Or just kidnap a few mod'rs and force them to make it for me... *Ponders.*

Yeah it's going to take a lot of work that's for sure.

Oh... For those who do not know what a Socket Quest would be, let me paint you a mental picture... Let's say you have aquired a rune, let's say an Ohm rune for instance. You could then take the Ohm rune and a piece of equipment you want socketed, such as a helmet or breast plate, and by giving it to the Socket-er Person, (There will be a story line and a proper title for the person later,) They will insert the rune into the armor. So now you have the Ohm rune in your armor, and I plan on adding traits to the runes as well, maybe for the Ohm rune you will get 10% fire resistance that will remain a constant effect while the armor is being worn, and so on and so forth, traits changing depending on what rune and what type of item you put it in.

Too much information.

I hope that helped a little...

umm first thing thats a bit of copyright infrignment, you cant use the same names as D2, secondly it would be like 10 billion times easier if you just gave a rune a single purpose, like 10% fire resistance, not like im sure your planning where it would be:

if put into helm: 10% fire res
Armor: fortify health 10pts
ect.
ect.

It would be a lot easier to have them just have 1 trait.

also it would be a lot easier if you could only have 1 socket per item, im just sayign my opinions on the topic

Well, Ohm is a real Norse runeword my friend, It has no copyright.

(The vikings WERE real.)

A max of 3 sockets is what I am planning, I do plan on making 1 rune have different functions in different gear, contrary to what you suggested. ;) It's going to be hard but I want it top notch.

Also I am thinking about including a book which can be found upon finishing the quest, that will give you a run-down of what every rune will do when put into an item...

yea socketing would be fun, but to me it would seem much like regular enchanting save for if the mod included the actauly rune inscription somewhere on the armor and he ability to still enchant it if the runes are already in there. maybe some cool new effects like new spells or some particle effects from the armor would be pretty cool.

The added bonus to socketing an item over enchanting it will be that you can actually form rune words, such as Jah Gul Eth becoming Fury, which will give specific attributes.

Hypothetically, let's say Jah gives +10 fortify speed alone. Gul gives fire absorb +5 and Eth gives cold absorb +5 (These are just made up for show, the actuals will be different.) But together not only will the armor gain those attributes, it will gain much more because the Runeword was made.

Armor /w all 3 runes might look like this:

+15 Fortify Speed
+10 Fortify Intelligence
+10 Cold Absorb
+10 Fire Absorb
+5 Fortify Strength

So as you can see, it will definetly be worth it to go the extra mile to get all three runes socketed, as oppose to just one.

Does this make sense?
