Looks like the gap between systems is really huge. Its almost unbelieable. The PS4 version is 1080p, compared to 720p on the Xbone. And the PS4 version clearly has better textures, AA, and shaders as well.

To be fair, this example isn't the average, but is in fact one of the most extreme cases in differences in visuals between the systems. But regardless of the extremes, the PS4 versions of most multiplatfor games are going to look better and/or run at better FPS. And the difference is going to be a bit larger than it was between PS3 and 360.

I can't see any convincing reason to buy the XBone over the PS4 when its $100 more.

That game... Is not nearly as impressive graphically as the trailers and pre-release screens suggested.

Running at 720p now is abysmal. You need to stay at native TV resolutions for the system to look good... Microsoft and Sony both need to learn this. 30 fps at 1080p native will always look better than 60 fps at 720p subsampled.

Even just 1360x768 would have helped so much last generation. :/

The PS4 looks about equivalent in power to a GTX 650 TI. The Xbone looks equivalent to a GTX 550 TI. Pretty pathetic really, considering these console are supposed to last 5-10 years.

Sony and Microsoft claimed they'd both be setting standards of 1080p, 60 fps, 4x MSAA. Pffffft... Let's be realistic. It'll only be a couple years before they're both just using MLAA or FXAA at 30-45 fps, while the PS4 is at adaptive 1080p and the Xbone is at 1360x768 in every game. Just like last generation they shot for 1080p, missed, dropped to 720p, still missed, and went to 1024x720 and called it 720p for marketing. Even as low as 1024x540 in a couple games, which is barely better than the PS2's resolution.

Also, the consoles *should* be using 8x Anisotropic Filtering, but they seem to be hung up on 4x. Old habits die hard, I guess, because AF on reasonably modern hardware is such a small hit there's no way they *can't* run 8x.

Don't get me started on the mistake called the Vita... It has only 1/2 the memory and 2/3 the speed of the PS3, yet they decided to give it a native resolution of about 600p.?????

Of course developers are subsampling on the Vita now. Which is pathetic, because subsampling looks horrid and 600p is needlessly high of a native resolution for a screen that small considering the original PSP was 272p.

They should have just gone 854x480 for a native res on the OLED screen, so they'd have extra performance to play around with. It'd still be close to a retina display. Now they have to scramble for performance, waste memory, and subsample on a system that expects your face to be 8 inches from the screen. Terrible design decisions all around. You never subsample a handheld, it's pretty much common sense....

Well, the specs for a lot of future PC games are going to be tied to and limited by the power of these console systems. Which means any PC that wasn't totally budget that was built in 2011 or later, will probably be running the multiplat PC ports at mid to high settings for the next 4 years. If you got a PC that beats the PS4 and Xbone, you'll have a PC good enough to play the PC ports of a lot of games, and they'll probably look/run better as well.

They really downgraded the quality, vs the in game footage from previous trailers.

the ps4 is capable of so much, they have touted its capabilities as fantastic, and MG5 runs 1080P 60fps with room to spare.

Now the one game to look out, the game that will truly push the console to its limit.

The PS4 is equivalent to a GTX 650 TI, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and AMD FX-8320 at 2.5Ghz.

It's absolutely underwhelming, and the Xbox One is weaker still.

Sadly that means they're going to continue to hold PC gaming back.

At least these new consoles are both octa-cores, so we'll finally be able to move away from the dual or tri-core optimization that's underpowering every new CPU. And they support DX11, so we might finally start to see physics and dynamic effects come to the forefront instead of the dated "stiff mesh and static diffuse" thing that's been in use for upwards of 15 years now.

Also the similarities in architecture should mean that this generation of ports run better than the last one.
