So, when Wet and Cold updated this morning, something happened that completely threw my game off, in the most literal sense. I've spent, no joke, the past 12 hours trying to figure out what the hell is wrong. I've run Wrye Bash, the Nexus Mod Manager, BOSS, every tool I can find to figure out what the hell is going on. Sometimes it works, and the game plays as it should. Then, I'll turn it off, do something else, when I come back, the load order is still the same, but now it doesn't work anymore. For the life of me, I'm at the end of my rope here. Here's a list of the mods I have, in the order I currently have them arranged. Unless I specify otherwise, they come from the Nexus. All versions are the most current.

Skyrim.esm

Update.esm

Dawnguard.esm

HearthFires.esm

Dragonborn.esm

HiRisTexture Pack 1-3

Unofficial Skyrim Patch

Unofficial Dawnguard Patch

Unofficial Dragonborn Patch

Unofficial High Res Patch

Wet and Cold (Steam Workshop)

Wet and Cold - Ashes (Steam Workshop)

Wed and Cold - Holidays

-The Above section of the load order works exactly as arranged every time, as the below are added in various places, I start getting ample CTDs after the Bethesda logo. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. There's got to be an order to it I'm missing.-

SkyUI

3DNPC (from 3DNPC site)
Civil War Overhaul

Jiub's Opus Quest Markers (Steam Workshop)

Multiple Followers Lite (Steam Workshop)

Realistic Water Two (Steam Workshop)

Realistic Water - Legendary (Steam Workshop)

Immersive Saturation Boost (Steam Workshop)

Take Notes - Journal of the Dragonborn (Steam Workshop)

Alternate Start - Live another Life (Steam Workshop)

Deadly Spell Impacts (Steam Workshop)

Run for Your Lives (Steam Workshop)

Clothing and Smithing Pack (Steam Workshop)

Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM; Steam Workshop, divided in five parts)

Places: Amberguard (Steam Workshop)

Places: Laintar Dale (Steam Workshop)

Places: Oakwood (Steam Workshop)

Younger Breton Females (Steam Workshop)

EDIT: To specify, what keeps happening is that I'll start with a base set of mods that seems to work no matter what, and slowly add more mods to try to figure out what the hell is going on, then eventually, I get to a mod that causes it to CTD after the Bethesda screen. So I'll deactivate that mod, then the previously stable set of mods don't work anymore! Why does it behave differently, even when everything is exactly the same? WHY WHY WHY?

EDIT EDIT: So I activate 3DNPC, Hurrah, it works fine. I activate Civil War Overhaul, Hurrah, it works fine, I activate SkyUI, BOO, it crashes. I change the load order, it crashes, I remove SkyUI, it crashes. I remove Civil War Overhaul, it crashes, I remove 3DNPC, it works again. I add SkyUI and Civil War Overhaul, it crashes. I try all combinations, crash, no wait, works, crash, no wait, crash. Cue massive swearing and growing insanity. What is going on, what madness is this?

As if this were some log of a inevitably doomed expedition into a Skyrim cave, I figure I may as well post again, rather than doing EDIT EDIT EDIT, because if you say a word over and over, that'll make the word lose all meaning and drive you MAD.

So this time, rather then start with the mods that add content (and that I REALLY want to use) I decided to start with SkyUI and work my way through the visual ones first. One by one I added them, starting the game, exiting when I made it to the window, and then adding another. So after the standard Unofficial Patches, Wet and Cold, and SkyUI I went in order of the following:

Deadly Spell Impacts

Realistic Water (and then Legendary)

SMIM mod segments

Younger Breton Females

Immersive Saturation Boost

Praise be to Sheoggorath it worked! Moving on, I added non-intensive script mods that I know work on their own, once again, checking each time that it would load up past the Bethesda screen:

Take Notes

Multiple Followers Lite

Places: Amber Guard

Places: Laintar Dale

Places: Oakwood

Jiub's Quest Markers

Clothing and Smithing Pack

All right, so far so good. It's all working, and continues to work. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME...

3DNPC

BAM! That's it. I get the Bum- Bumbum of the Bethesda screen, and then a CTD. All this is in exactly the same order as my Skyrim load order. I unchecked 3DNPC and moved on. So I added the following two:

Alternate Start - Live Another Life

Civil War Overhaul.

I bite my fingers as it loads up, but hurrah, it all works. So that leaves me with 3DNPC, my most favorite of mods. Where does it belong? Where in my load order does it need to truly be home?

Why doesn't 3DNPC work when it worked fine yesterday? I've tried every spot in the load order, all masters are apparently present. I've run NMM, WyreBash, TESedit, and BOSS trying to figure out where it belongs, and I have had no luck. Any help is desired before madness fully set in.

Are you running the Hearthfire patch for 3dnpc

Also I have had issues before relating to the mod. I ended up putting it right up the top of my load order straight after Skyui and that seemed to stop some of the CTD's. Do you have any other mods that effect NPC's scripting running. Another thing is are you running the memory patches that help with CTD's?

Your Unofficial Patches are in the wrong order. See instructions for ordering those manually in the mod description page of the Unofficial Patch.

Thanks for the response, but the unofficial patches are working already in the order I listed (and in the order recommended). With either configuration, 3DNPC continues to not work even while all the others do.

I am using the Hearthfire patch for 3DNPC, but I will download the new version of the mod (didn't get this week's) and the hearthfire patch just to make sure that's not the problem. As I stated earlier, my game was running fine until the latest Wet and Cold patch, which is leading me to believe there must be some sort of conflict between the two, but it doesn't seem to matter whether I put 3DNPC before or after Wet and Cold.

Irregardless, your Unofficial Skyrim Patches are in the wrong order and you will never have consistent gameplay until they are ordered correctly. As the mighty Renn has already said, refer to the USKP page for correct ordering. BOSS does not order them properly.

This should be standard by now. Post your entire BOSS log, including the SKSE information, and the list of plugins not recognized by BOSS if one is generated. Just copy/paste it here and enclose it in a set of spoiler tags so it won't clutter the screen.

@rhowington: I know that, and I've tried it both ways. At the moment I have it set up with the correct one mentioned on the FAQ, but it does not seem to affect the situation either way. If I can't get 3DNPC working in either configuration, that's the least of my troubles.

@ripple: I'd love to, but BOSS keeps generating a list with mods I don't even have any more from the last time I had troubles. Therefore the log it's been generating isn't going to be of much use in this scenario. I've only had issues once before, and BOSS didn't help then, normally I never use it. So, if there's a step I'm missing which would let it generate a current log, I'd really like to know. EDIT: BOSS is giving me errors, though they flash by on my screen too quick to read them. According to the interface I'm up to date, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.

Also EDIT: Just tried latest version of 3DNPC, still not working with the other mods.

Also, also EDIT: Just to make sure just ran 3DNPC along with the Unofficial patches, and it works fine in that manner, going to systematically try them again, and I've just dashed my theory that it's a conflict with Wet and Cold. I really am going crazy here, its been 17 hours since the problem started, and I still seem no closer to resolution.

I am not sure what you mean here, but it sounds like there is a problem right there. If you installed a mod with a plugin, it will show up on the BOSS log even if BOSS does not recognize it, and even if you had thought that the mod had previously been uninstalled (if it shows up, it means it hasn't been uninstalled properly). The BOSS log does not lie in this regard and will display a lot of information that we will need to correctly troubleshoot your issue (rather than just toss out general guesses and suggestions that may be completely unhelpful). Since you are having a serious stability issue, I suggest that this is not the time to abandon a carefully crafted utility intended to facilitate the maintenance of clean and organized load orders.

Here is what I suggest: go to the BOSS installation directory, execute 'BOSS GUI.exe', and make sure there is a checkmark beside "show log on completion", uncheck "display file CRC", and select "HTML" for the output format. On the right, make sure "sort plugins - update masterlist" with nothing else selected. Run BOSS, and see if it will generate a log that will you can copy/paste here (into a set of spoiler tags).
