In response to post #12654238.

all of your precautions are good, but why still use Explorer? it's still the most targeted browser on the planet.... FireFox, Safari or Chrome are much better.

In response to post #12632713.

That's' exactly what I was thinking :L

Still, it can be a hassle for anyone unfortunate enough to get caught by said Trojan.

Talent or not, the person doing this is still a douche.

This is a heads up announcement to please, for the love of all that is good, always keep your wits about you when downloading from here or anywhere on the internet.

There is currently an individual who is placing trojans within well known pieces of Skyrim software, such as the Skyrim Character Editor and even Skyrim Mod Organizer, and then uploading them as new files here on Skyrim Nexus (note, the original files here and here are NOT compromised, this user is uploading new files to the site masquerading as these files). This trojan has code within it that will retrieve any passwords you have stored in your browser and send them to the script kiddy's email address. The script kiddy is then using the details he has stolen from users "unlucky" enough to be exploited in this way, logging in to their accounts here on the Nexus and then uploading another trojan via the same method.

so with other words any 1 can upload a virus to this site, wat means your security sucks then

If people don't have the sense to scan their system's daily for malware then don't blame the sight. These guys work hard to keep things together. Now if you don't have decent malware scanning software then get some and scan your system regularly, daily would be smartest! After almost 30 years on the internet I can tell you no site is safe, people can get in to some of the most secure sites there are!

Thanks for the heads up Dark0ne!!

"If you don't have a firewall, or if your firewall does not warn you when new, unrecognised and untrusted software is trying to connect to the internet please follow these steps:

Find your router
Rip your router away from any connected cables
Open the nearest window
Throw your router out of it
Close the window"

So 99.99999999% of the routers out there should be thrown out the window?
Get a software firewall on your computer, and set security to high. Otherwise must stuff gets thru(Thats my experience with firewalls out there).

Routers like D-Link 3xx to Asus N68 will stop stuff coming in, but THEY WILL NOT STOP ANYTHING GOING OUT

Basically, Routers are a false sense of security if people thinks it will protect you from all.

Note1 : Thanks for the warning.
Note2 : The routers I talk about here is routers for home use in the 50-400USD range. Not Corporate routers at 1000USD+

And IP bans are bad as most have dynamic IP, not static.

Banning IP-ranges usually works. His neighbours might be kind of gross with him afterwards, though.

Well, anything sold with the name "trusted" I'm not trusting. Just like any corporation with Freedom in them isent necessarily interested in your freedom. More like winning you over so they can easier stab you in your back.
