Thanks for reading.
I played Morrowind until the disc broke back in the day, and now I'd like to play it some more. I purchased GOTY (again) a while ago and installed it on my laptop, but had problems (as in, blue-screen-of-death problems) because it was a new computer. My new computer is even newer, so I'm worried that MW might cause it difficulty.

This is what I'm running:
OS: Windows Vista 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 @ 2.67 GHz x 4 (quad-core)
Memory: 8 GB DDR3 RAM
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Sound: Realtek High-Definition Audio

I also have a widescreen monitor (23" ), so I know I'll have to get a fix for that. This computer obviously surpasses the system requirements of MW, but so did my laptop, and it had some pretty serious problems running the game. My question is this: is it safe to run MW on my new computer, or will I run into problems? And if it isn't safe, is there a hotfix, etc. that will allow it to run safely?

I miss Morrowind like a Khajiit misses moon sugar, and if anybody can help me out, they will have my undying gratitude. And sorry if this is a stupid question...

Sounds like your problem is Vista. =\
Vista is nearly incompatible with every program that was not designed to work ONLY for it. (That's why you see all those pc game boxes in the store that say "Made for Vista" on it.)
I absolutely hate Windows Vista in every way something can be hated. If you don't mind doing this, reformat your drive and install windows XP on it. If you want to keep vista, reformat and partition your drive with XP and Vista. I think somewhere around here is a post for getting Morrowind to run in Vista, but its such a bad OS i wouldn't even bother. I prefer Linux myself, I only have a small XP partition for games that only run in windows.

My laptop was XP. And trust me, I would totally reformat with XP except I don't want to buy a new OS. I share your hatred of Vista to some extent, since it's unbelievable that one OS should have so many problems running the programs developed for its predecessor.

Awesome. My main concern is hardware, though--MW was incompatible with my laptop's graphics card, and it would periodically strip off the textures, CTD, then display a blue screen for a quarter of a second and restart. Was that just a quirk of my old computer? o.o

I read that it has issues with integrated Intel chips, it looked weird on one of my old laptops. My current laptop has an Nvidia GPU and it's fine, my current laptop runs 32bit Vista.

I run it on Vista with an intergrated graphics card and haven't had any problems (apart from the usual load order/GMST etc). I think that set-up should be fine.
P.S. I recomend getting MGE for larger resolution.

Awesome, thanks. I can't wait to put every graphics option on the highest setting. MGE is Morrowind Graphics Extender, isn't it? I had heard that thing does wonders. Now: Mods--to find the old favorites and the new awesomosity.

I once had a Morrowind playing session which lasted five hours without one single error. It was August 21st, 2003.
