Huh, odd.

There might be a problem with the install itself. Dont know if it helps to run the reinstall in Admin Mode. Steam is a pita.

So try doing the following:

  • Uninstall Fallout like this
    1. Backup save games and your ArchiveInvalidation.txt file if you have/use one
    2. Uninstall Fallout3 in your System Control (Programs)
    3. There are two Folders left: Game Dir (with your Mods) & your My Games folder
-> delete or simply rename the Folders to backup
-> be careful with backed up data and avoid using old *.ini files
    4. Clean Registry (e.g. by CCleaner)
    5. Reboot your System, to get all Registry changes applied
    6. Defrag your Hard Drive
    7. Install the latest GfWL-Client

  • Set Hidden Files and Folders visible
    1. Open a Window, e.g. "Computer", hit < Alt > to get the menu bar shown
    2. Go to Tools --> Folder Options and click the View tab.
    3. In the Advanced settings list, enable the point "Show hidden files and folders".
    4. Click to clear the check box "Hide extensions for known file types".
    5. Apply this setting, and click OK.

  • Go to: C: \ Users \ "User Account" \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ XLive \
There you should find the downloaded setup files somewhere in a subdirectory
(If you think the downloaded files could be corrupted, better try to download them again)

  • Run the setup file in Admin Mode (right-click, ...)

Hope this helps, good luck

I had already done a fresh re-install via steam.. it could be a corrupt install it doesn't make sense though since 2 other Steam/GfWL games also don't work...

I also tried disabling Hyperthreading as well as resetting my mild overclocking to default. Exactly the same problem...
