FYI - Almost done with the UV Map on the Jaffa Staff. Another 15 minutes this morning and I would have finished the UVs on the last two parts! Should be ready to begin texture work tonight.

EDIT #1: I think this will be the final version of the UV Map

EDIT #2: Added the reduced size as requested.

EDIT #3: After much trial and error, I have finally got my copy of CrazyBump working!!! Turned out that my anti-virus program automatically flagged it as suspicious and would not allow it to run. DoH! I can now make spec maps to be included in the alpha channel of the normal maps which control the shine-factor of the materials! Yippie!

EDIT #4: (Oct 25, 11am) - Just finished the movie-accurate version to accompany the Serpent version that I created first. This is the needed correction that was noted in post #9 to give the base an oval shape rather than triangle. Here are some pics.

The Bashaak Training Staff.

Question: Should this be implemented in-game as a non-enchanted staff which does nothing or as a double-handed blunt weapon that can deal out melee damage? If the latter, it might look a bit awkward being so large. ;)

Well unenchanted staffs do nothing, so I think it would be better as a melee weapon, but I'm not totally sure, because of the size of it.

I'll leave the choice to you.

I'd implement it as the two-handed blunt. It's better than a staff that does nothing, after all, and I've seen it done before. It works rather well.

Nothing further. It is just about finished when I last posted but I got an unexpected contracting job and have been doing that. If I do well on this job, I might get more...first impressions and all that. I might even make enough to buy the much-needed PC I've been wanting for the last couple of years!!! Once completed, I will get back to this hobby and finish er up.

Oh, I didn't mention that one of the few things I did get done so far was the wooden Bashaak being completed and configured as a 2-handed weapon which looks pretty good. I also optimized the mesh a bit more and reduced the poly count a bit where it was unnecessary (although still fairly high). I made up the difference using a high-poly version to bake a normal map based on the shape and then melded it with a normal map of the texture to provide for a very nice finish.

Well, I durn did fainted!

They're excellant work, Conan me lad. Can't wait to kick some arse.

Also, can't wait to see the Zat gun... maybe on a belt? Hate to see all that modelling go to waste.

Prefer to see it go to waist, eh he.
