I suggest getting an Athlon Dual core system. The dual cores might not be that important right now, but they will be and then, if you get a pentium 3 ghz you will regret be outta luck. The dual core may not be important now, but eventually games will require it. Oh and Athlon is much less expensive than Intel and way better in my opinion.

The motherboad I have selected also supports Pentium Dual Core Processors, which I seriously considered getting; however, it was not in my budget. This will allow me to upgrade the processor at a later date, of course, given that they do not change the Socket type. I also spec'd out prices for an AMD based system and for what I am getting the Pentium System had the better price. As far as comparing the performance of a AMD to Pentium that is a topic for a completely different dicussion. I thank you for you input; however, these are all things that I have already considered.

Glad that you have all your bases covered then. Just wanted to help out. :)

I think im set for this game, 3.6 P4 Prescott w/ HT, 2gb ram, 400gb HardDrive and the new 7800GT 512mb "goes like hell" card on a 21" widescreen. This is a whole new computer for this game, bought it all for a little over £1000! Do you think you will be able to fly in this like Morrowind? Oh and i thought maybe the oblivion world will be exactly like Cyrodill but will burnt trees and a chared landscape, maybe im expecting too much...

Im making a ste too, called Journeys Through Oblivion where people will hopefully write in their adventures and stuff!

I can't believe I'm admitting this but I am buying a new system to run this game on...and I suppose I'll use it for other purposes as well...

AMD x2 4800+
2GB RAM
250GB Sata2 HDD x2 raid - (can't be too careful of system failures...)
ATI x1900xt (will decide about crossfire later...)
16x DVD+rw etc blah blah

Morrowind ran great on my AMD3400+ ATI 9800Pro 1GB system but it STILL slowed down when I was intensly battling as a mage (all those fire effects you know) at my preferred 1600x1200 display resolution. Hope the new rig will be able to keep up at that res also...will let you know.

hurrah, got my stick of 512 Ram today, so now I'm running 1 Gig of Ram. I've got all the regular requirememtns except the 3 gig processor (2.8 is current). I think I'm all set for some good rendering then. and it only cost me 60 for the extra 512 stick.

As for me, I think if I draw the frames on a peice of paper I'll still be faster than my PC. I have a Celeron 1.8 and an old R9K. :( :( :(

Look away! I'm hideous!

*Puts a basketball under the back of his T-shirt, then a ragged, old blanket and limps swiftly to the Notre Dame saying: ...must...enter...competition...for...Alienware.......*
