SenseiNacho
I think it would be really cool if NMM could auto update mods. Is this possible? If it is, it should totally be a thing!
TheVampireDante
It was decided not to do that because it was one of the listed downsides to using the Steam workshop. Most people seemed to dislike their mods being updated/altered without their prior consent. Might not like the changes made to a later version of a mod and would then have no way to revert to the previously installed version.
SineWaveDrox
I think another problem with something like this, aside from a lot of people not liking the automation, is that the Nexus allows for multiple files on a mod page, meaning that it may be difficult to get NMM to properly update the mods. Some mods have multiple versions (for preference, compatibility, etc), which could present a problem for such a system. Another issue would be things like optional files (different texture sizes/colors, etc). Additionally, some authors, when releasing an update, instead of uploading the entire updated file, will simply release a smaller archive with only the affected files, which needs to be installed on top of the older version, with the older files being overridden. With such a vast array of inconsistencies across mods, I think that, simply from a technical standpoint, it may be pretty difficult to implement such a system.
