Okay I know its not bethsoft game, but the reason its titled as thus is for this:
Well my sister played it a lot more than I and has gotten maybe 3 hours in. Anyways, neither she nor I know these things:
1: Is it eventually freeform? Choose to do a quest or not, whatever, like FO3, TES III (and IV)?
2: Can you buy houses, horses, other features like that
3: If so, are there safe storage facilities and or chests for personal use.
4: Do you ever get to go to a town that you don't immediantly get in conflict with and be able to just peruse the market place?
5: Other related questions comparing DAO to FO3 and or TESIV
Thanks

1. you have to do all the main quests, but you don't have to do optional ones
2. no horse, or house. the modders will come up with something eventually
3. no, but theres a mod for a chest in your campsite i think
4. yea, everyone actually.

Bioware RPGs are more story driven, linear games versus the Bethesda less story open ended style.

You'll reach a point where the brunt of the main quests can be completed in whatever order you prefer. Once you reach this point, all but one place can be visited and left without being greeted by combat, and 3 of them won't even force you to a cutscene.
To avoid near future hairpulling, don't go to redcliffe first. Do some sidequests, dlcs, another area, just don't go to redcliffe as a weakish lvl 7.
