Wonderful work in all aspects of this mod! Vilja does what she's meant to do: liven up the adventures you go on, even if that 'adventure' is as simple as going to the markets. She almost makes my other companion seem like a lifeless statue that occasionally follows me! Thank you, she's just what I was looking for. Any plans for a male character like Vilja (non romancable but lively and talkative)?

Thank you - I'm glad that you like her :)

Of course I would like to do a male companion like Vilja... but then I would have to find a maniac that was ready to voice-act +1500 voice entries  . What made Vilja relatively easy to accomplish is that I did all her voiceacting myself.

And, to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I could make a male companion that seemed as 'real' as Vilja. I've made several companions for Morrowind, and the female ones just seems so much more... alive. Maybe it's because I am a female, myself. I guess Vilja has inherited quite a lot of me :)

At the moment, I haven't decided on what to do next. I think I need to wait a little and see that Vilja continues to function as she is supposed to -and so far she seems to do so.

I have given this file my endorsement.

I've been using your mods for a long time now. I used your companion mods when I played Morrowind and I'm glad to see your first companion for Oblivion. It's very well done.
Your voice acting, compared to most mods I've seen is spectacular. The lines are very well integrated with the original Oblivion voices.
What little I can critic are very small things. You mispronounced a lot of words. Also a "Wait" command would have been nice. Other than that, I can't really say anything to really offer in constructive criticism. I love Vilja, and hope you make more in the future.

Hi Aranas!

I'm so glad you like Vilja! And, yes, I'll probably continue to mod for both Oblivion and Morrowind for a long time to come. But starting from scratch with a new companion takes its time, I started with Vilja already in august.

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't found the Wait-command - there are in fact two choices, wait with armor and wait unarmored. they are both within the "Travelling together"->"We need to separate"-cathegory, together with a bunch of other alternatives (go home/stay at home, meet at a previously decided meeting point, meet me in Anvil/Bravil/Bruma/etc...). Maybe you just haven't checked the alternatives in the "We need to separate"-option?

As for my mispronouncing - yes, I'm sure there must be lots of it :). After all, english isn't my first language... If there is anything that is really bad/absurde, let me know of it so that I can fix it in later updates of Vilja. :)

Thank you both of you! :)

Tezuki, Vilja has changed my way of playing, too, especially since I started to use the version where she is not immortal and I actually have to take care of her, think over her armor and try to keep her safe.
And I spend a lot more time shopping now

tiger8u2, now you got me curious of Ryans Blood & Mud - is that a quest mod?

I guess you must have played my MW-companions, too... Constance et al. At least Vilja won't bring you into as many awkward situations as Con did!

I'm glad to be back modding again, and now I'm really enjoying Oblivion (although Morrowind still owns a huge chunk of my gamers' heart)

Emma, Thank You!

I use to hate the thought of working with a partner--then I met Vilja. Now I wouldn't leave home without her.

The voice acting is perfect. The minor mispronunciations are appropriate to Vilja's character. If they didn't exist, I would recommend that they be added. Now, if I could speak Swedish as well as you speak English....

Vilja's fight A.I. is the best I've seen in a companion. I feel so because I've had others who failed to simple defend themselves. Yes, I play her essential version (I have a lot of trust issue to overcome ;-)).

Speaking of issues--could you please cure her kleptomania? It really pains to find that she has stolen every book in the house. I'm sure you know how difficult it is to place items in the game. Hopefully, it's not just my load order that’s causing this behavior.

Lastly, I like the fact that the romantic side of the relationship is implied rather than explicit. Based on their interactions, I'd say that Vilja and the PC are friends with benefits, but I don't really need to watch.

Thanks again,

Q

Hi there!

I'm so glad that Vilja has managed to change your point of view when it comes to companions - and this in spite of her sudden kleptomania behaviour

I'm perfectly honest when i say I have never seen her steal anything at all. Or, rather... at a point during the WIP I had added a 'collect ingredients'AIpackage to her that worked also indoors - and then she started to eat everything in my house! Afterwards she complained that she looked fat... :whistling:

I removed that package, and since then she hasnt been stealing anything. She has no AI-package that would trigger her to do so.
Have you checked her inventory? If she is carrying the missing books, then she obviously has stolen them. If not... well then she hasn't. In both cases I suspect there must be another mod involved in why this happens - I have heard there are some mods that will make companions automatically loot.

Was she in wander-mode or following you around when this happened? If you tell me, I can see if I can reproduce the problem. But so far she hasn't stolen a thing from me.

As for the romance aspect, I think it's all in the 'eyes of the beholder', i.e. the player. There is nothing saying that there IS a romance going on - but there is obviously a fondness that grows stronger and stronger, and if you play a male character the rest is up to your roleplaying. If you play a female character, it should be equally easy to imagine a genuin friendship-love without any romance aspects. At any rate, Vilja has had her heart broken once, so it's up to you to prove to her that there are genuine strong relations, too.

I have just learnt that there is a small conflict when you use Vilja together with an overhaul mod called WACShop - (find it here).

WACShop will change the bookstore merchant Phintias in First Edition into an unique race (he will be bearded), and this will prevent a dialog line in Vilja's questling from showing up. It happens very early in Viljas storyline.

Easiest way to handle this is to simply make Phintias a redguard again (remove the change of him in the WACShop-mod), or, if you are starting a new game, don't use WACShop until Vilja knows what she needs to know about the Shy Root of Hunger.

I have given this file my endorsement.

excellent as expected. I hope you continue to work on Oblivion and make mods as wonderful as the mods you made for morrowind

Thank you :)

Yes, after being semi-retired for quite some time because of illness in my family, I believe that I'm now back again. I do enjoy modding, both for Oblivion and for Morrowind. :)

Hi Emma,

You're probably right about another mod causing Vilja's unusual behavior. I would wait to see if anyone else experiences the same issue before trying to fix it ("you can't fix it if it ain't broke"). But, I appreciate your response.

Just to answer your questions, however, I did find the missing books in her inventory--all marked as stolen property. Her behavior exhibited as follows:

Awake in wonder mode, have a meal, make a potion, enter sneak mode, and then steal books. She probably got bored again.

I've learned to "save" more often, and this minor problem would not make me leave her. I knew she had "baggage" when I met her.

Thanks again,

Q

Wow, that's really weird!

I've never seen that kind of behaviour in my game, and not had any other reports of it. She doesn't have a sneak package added to her - it's scripted when she sneaks in dungeons - so the only times I have seen her sneak when in wander mode is if you are in a house and there are no beds of the kind companions can use. Then she tend to sneak a little at the time when she would normally go to bed. But never grabbing things that don't belong to her!

It must be a conflict, or some load order issue, else I should have had other reports by now. Heh, I have been thinking of what Morrowind thief companion Constance would do if she gained access to the Cyrodiil world - guess I know now :whistling:

Anyway, glad that you don't give up on her in spite of her 'long fingers'. If you learn more about why this happens, please let me know. I bet it was her unhappy love for Runar that made her become cleptomaniac

Thank you, both :)

Nice to see that also fellow swedes like her - although I don't think her accent seems very exotic to you, Magnus G ;)

Kul att du tycker om henne!
