I wanted to start a discussion to encourage Kend to consider making the following 2 changes to the character skills (or others people might suggest to any of the skills) in future CT versions or as optional file add-ons.
1) Remove radar from survival skill
- replace radar with either greater resistance bonuses or replace skill entirely
2) Remove combat tactics skill entirely
Replacement suggestions:
A) Bandage skill - allow characters to use injury kits to heal other players in combat, allowing fighters and rogues a healing option (and increase healing done by kits and per level of ability).
B) Potion mixing skill - mix potions and poultices to make greater forms. ex. level 1 - mix 3 lesser to make 1 normal pot, etc. up to level 4 where you get mix mastery and it takes 2 pots to mix to a greater not 3 (not sure about the balance in healing, maybe use 4:3 going to 3:4 instead).
Why "fix" these 2 skills?
1) survival as a skill makes no sense - detecting enemies through walls would be a mage talent of incredible power for a tactical rpg. It's overpowered, but more importantly, it kills replay value since monster type or location is not randomized. Why fix at all? Because at high levels you don't have a lot of options to dump skill points into something useful.
Survival is an awful attempt to reinvent the ranger tracking skills from BG, which worked in a totally different way.
2) Combat tactics - NOT PART OF THE GAME. This is part of the game engine, not in the game. It has nothing to do with characters, as the npc's are all supposed to be experienced warriors but come with slots not maxed out??
More to the point you can grab control of any character and your options in combat are no longer limited, so clearly this "skill" isn't part of the game, but a defective part of the engine they chose to make a skill for the sake of adding one.
This should be replaced by a real in game role playing skill.
