  • Light I > Light
Candlelight is misleading because both versions have the same luminous intensity
  • Light II > Magelight
Important! It is voiced as such in the First Lessons quest
  • Transmute Water > Waterbreathing
Classic name, easy to understand, based on lore
  • Paralyze I > Paralyze
Mass paralysis is not a rank of targeted paralysis
  • Transmute Muscles I > Strength
Transmute Muscles is fine, but Strength has the advantage of underpinning Requiem's secondary attribute Strength derivation.
  • Transmute: Muscles II > Strengthening Touch
  • Transmute: Blood > Transmute Blood
  • Summon Swarm I > Insect Swarm
  • Summon Swarm II > Insect Swarm, Greater
  • Raise Dead (rank) > Animate Dead (rank)
Raise dead is confusing with Resurrection from other RPGs
  • Raise Dead IV > Dead Thrall
Dead Thrall is a different spell
  • Bound Axe > Bound Battleaxe
    Better defined
  • Soul Trap I > Soul Trap
  • Teleport I > Mark and Recall
Based on earlier TES games and also much easier to understand
  • Teleport II > Dimension Door (or Blink)
First is more immersive, second is more precise, both are based on RPG lore
  • Banish Daedra (rank) > Banishment (rank)
Works for all summoned beings, not just Daedra
  • Command Daedra > Coup d'etat or Command Summon, or Assume Control or Commandeer Summon
Again it works on all summoned/animated minions.
  • Necromantic Empowerment > Necromantic Restoration
Empowerment is the term used by Requiem for Overcharge and thus it is highly confusing for a spell that restores health to undead.
  • Firesparks > Flames
    Vanilla is more descriptive
  • Lightning Sparks > Sparks
  • Icewind > Frostbite
  • Icy Shard > Ice Spike
It actually looks more like a spike.
  • Fiery Arrow > Fire Bolt
Important! It is voiced as such in the First Lessons quest
  • Lightning Shackles > Chain Lightning
    Classic name, makes better sense
  • Icesphere > Ice Storm
    Same as above
  • Icy Lance > Ice Spear
It's too short for a lance. And lances are not thrown.
  • Firebolt > Incinerate
It should renamed to anything but Firebolt, but I think the vanilla name is perfect
  • Frightening Orb > Orb of Fear
Important! It is voiced as "Fear" in the First Lessons quest
  • Arcane Ward (rank) > Ward (rank)
Simple name as spoken by Tolfdir (and Heckur)
  • Healing Aura I > Balyna's Soothing Balm
  • Healing Aura III > Balyna's Perfect Balm
  • Healing Aura II > Balyna's Soothing Touch
  • Healing Aura IV > Balyna's Perfect Touch
These are Daggerfall and Morrowind classics and solve the issue of ranking spells that are different
  • Arcane Disjunction > Breach Magic Resistance
Arcane Disjunction means magic cancellation which is the reverse of what it actually does.
  • Dispel I > Dispel Magic
  • Dispel II > Dispel Magic on Target

In response to post #15596570. #15596795 is also a reply to the same post.

Yes, I understand, the current manual doesn't describe any school besides Illusion.

Great job :)

@madmortem, let's keep a few spells as ranked to honor the current Requiem nomenclature; besides turn undead and mage armor are indeed the same spell with just different ranks.

I agree with your point on ingredients but I really have a hard time understanding the difference between different potions & poisons, something that didn't happen with vanilla. And some names (such as "Ably whatever" ) really are a stretch. Ogerboss said some names were formed to faciliate sorting in a pre-SkyUI era!

I think it just looks rather boring. "Mage Armor I"/"Mage Armor II" and "Mage Armor"/"Greater Mage Armor" surely convey the same information, but the first looks like a demotivated enumeration. An ordering like "Oakskin", "Stoneskin", "Ebonyskin" is also perfectly valid in my opinion because the strength of the materials is well known to the player.

Also an enumeration gives the impression that only the numbers change, nothing else. While this is indeed true for some spells at the moment, this is something I want to change in future versions.

With current ranked system I had the feeling in the early beginning that there are only few spells in Requiem.

The most annoying are self buffs and traget buffs like Healing Aura Rank I and II. I would like to see "Healing Aura (Self)" and "Healing Aura (Other)". For the rest I dont care much.

Teleport I is a teleportation spell between locations (expanded greatly in Enhanced Mage Experience for Requiem mod). Teleport II is targeted version for local use. Why rename this to Invisible Stalker?

In response to post #15604295.

Teleport II would be better described as "blink", which is the usual name for short range instant teleportation skills for most games.

Both lights hover (i.e. when they reach destination) so Hovering Light isn't too good, I think. It could work, but isn't perfect.

Axonis mentioned these: Ably Deceiving > Fortify Illusion. I thought deceiving was lying in conversations (at least in the current Requiem version).
