SKSE crash

Hi, I have skse (1.7.1) crashing my game (no error, just ctd). If I start a new game it crashes about when I reach the Guardian Stones on my way to Riverwood. I can save my game before I get there and after it crashes I can reload and use the standing stones and continue to Riverwood. However it crashes again after about the same time it takes to run through the intro. I haven't timed it but it always seems to crash after the same (real) time has passed. I want to use skse for SkyUI.

In the interests of troubleshooting, below is my load order for a working (non crashing) game without using skse. If I run the game using skse and the below mods it crashes. If I run skse with only the basics (Skyrim.esm and update.esm) it crashes.

Load order:
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm
Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp
Dawnguard.esm
Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp
Dragonborn.esm
Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp

I have tried running skse as Administrator. All the skse files including scripts are copied over. When using skse with SkyUI, SkyUI works fine up until the crash.

Anyone have a similar problem and hopefully found a fix for it? Thanks.

Normally my favourite two word phrase is 's*** Happens'. At the moment though it is 'Try SSME'! It worked!

Thanks Ball11.

Scratch all that. It seemed to work at first, allowing me to get much further. Now however I cannot load the save game I made. When I start a new game it crashes upon leaving the cave. Looks like I'll have to do without skse until it gets fixed.

Are there any decent UI mods that don't need skse?

there may be, just browse the nexus. but how decent they are.. no idea, I'm using SkyUI since forever, like the majority of players.

Oh, and I wonder, what's that about the Hearthfires.esp? It isn't in your loadorder, but the game seems to expect it? Had you installed Hearthfire and deletet it or something?

Wouldn't be relevant. I found the cause for your crash, anotheruselesslogon.

[07/22/2014 - 02:50:03PM] Info: *Achievement 1 awarded - a winnar is you!* <---- This refers to the mod AchieveThat!

Your loadorder does not contain the necessary file "Achieve That.esp" to run the mod properly.

Please check the box for your plugin to be able to load and you should be good to go.

If your intention was to deinstall this mod, please download the mod manually again, check every file you find in the downloaded archive against your files installed in the Data/* folder/s and remove them manually.

After that you will have to either start over with a clean save game, because your old savefile still contains the edits from the AchieveThat! -scripts or you reinstall the mod and then disable the mod ingame in the MCM menu, close the game and deinstall it again.

Ah, had that in mind and thought: nah, doesn't have that mod, must be something else.

Archieve That! comes with an uninstall option (ingame), so you have to install Archieve That! again and use that option (in case you are sure you don't want to keep it) to uninstall the scripts and then you can uninstall the mod via your manager.

SKSE has never given me problems, across multiple new starts, as well as multiple installs. How and why do you think SKSE is at fault for your problems?

First of all, you need to clean Update.esm with TES5Edit, along with Dawnguard.esm and Dragonborn.esm. If that doesn't work, try disabling ALL of the Unofficial patches, at least until you can get to Whiterun. The area from the cave exit to Riverwood to Whiterun is very CTD prone for some reason.

At the very least, you need LOOT for proper load order and TES5Edit fo clean mods and to make sure the mods will load properly. These are both essential tools if you plan to mod.

  • 9 months later...

My problem was the SKSE.ini itself.

This topic led me to thinking that. Thanks. I deleted everything in SKSE.ini besides the CLEARINVALID and now my Skyrim loads. ^_^

This, this, this right here, holy crap this is it!!! Give this fella a cookie, or a beer, or whatever he wants! Thank you dude!
