CTD on new game

I did a clean reinstall of Skyrim, I mean by deleting the actual folder. Went to start a new game with Live Another Life. Crash. It crashes when I have to sleep on the bed to start the new life. I CTD when changing to female too. So I uninstalled Live Another Life and tried it with SKSE. New game, load screen, crash. I then disabled all mods, sound fix, played on low settings and used the launcher. New game, load screen, crash, did a couple of keyboard smashes. Honestly, I have no idea what to do. Help is appreciated.

Mods List Please.

 

Best Guess at this time if your crashing with no mods installed then something that you installed overwrote something that was pretty important.

 

Thing is that isn't as rare as many would like to think.

 

Its incredibly easy to have something from the base game like a script end up being overwritten.

 

Here's something people don't realize, even though you unchecked the ESP technically all of the files from that mod are present in your game folder, so if a mod overwrote a script that was important that means that script is making a call for the mod with an unchecked ESP.

 

You can avoid this pain by using a better modding platform like Mod Organizer.

 

Other than that you have not given enough to go on.

But Bethesda/Steam are really really sloppy at what gets installed and cleaned and overwritten....SO...

 

3 Locations that have game files. Skyrim Folder, Appdata folder and the My Docs folder.

 

Doing anything with Steam does not involve the Appdata or MY docs folders, so you can have leftovers from your previous install. Plugins.txt is what tells the game what to load and is in the APPdata folder. IT should get overwritten by mod managers but sometimes it has old mods listed.

 

Another thing is that the 2 INI files are left alone by Steam so you could have OLD ini files.

 

C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Skyrim

...:\Users\[user name]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

 

In the MY docs Folder delete the 2 ini files, Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini, Run the default Game launcher (SkyrimLauncher.exe) found in your Skyrim Main folder. This will generate 2 brand new INI files. Then try starting the Game with SKSE if you use it.

 

IF you delete the 2 files in Appdata (Plugins.txt / load order.txt) and run BOSS, or The default launcher you will get new files for those also. (think thats what makes those 2 files..) Save back-up in case. Will check that later , but dinner now...lol

 

IF all else fails....Download TES5Edit, Run it with whats pre-selected, see if you get an error...that is the problem mod.

Dude you missed the part after he said clean install that he then installed a bunch of mods.

 

My point still stands his game is not clean cause he filled it again.

clean Install ...without new ini files, and the OLD data in Appdata even without any mods is not a clean install...Guess you missed the part he even tried without mods?..

Yeah, using Live Another Life was even worse for me. I couldn't even get past the initial loading screen after clicking "New Game." My best advice is to uninstall that, and see if you can start a new game the regular way.

Ok I'll try moving all the files that aren't in the base game out and delete the appdata and documents. Thanks for the help.
