Ok i just downloaded coverwoman did you install  one of the options for that mod as well as the main mod?You don't need a mod manager to install simple texture replacing mods.

Yep, I've tried just extracting them into the file. I didn't try any of the options for it, just downloaded covergirl 3 put the mod texture folder in the skyrim data folder.

I've also started messing around with BSAopt, to find a way around my problem by just replacing the vanilla textures, but I couldn't fully understand how to use it. at this point I'm prepared to just replace the game files, and keep them backed up somewhere else because I have no idea why it keeps loading the originals.

I installed SKSE automatically through the mod manager.<<<<<<THIS is a problem!!!

SKSE is not a mod, NO mod manager can install SKSE properly , not NMM, Wrye bash cant do it, not even MO (mod organizer)...you are missing all the files that belong in the Skyrim folder...Install SKSE into...>>.....\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim <<<

Skse gets installed into the Skyrim Folder...NOT the data folder...all Mod manager can only install to the Data folder.

Re-install SKSE.

Ignore that part, I don't know why I wrote that. My Skse is installed in the skyrim folder, not the data folder, I installed it using the installer, not the mod manager.

I've been binging the problem and have found no bloody answers just more questions.

Is your Skyrim up to date?I used to turn off Steams autoupdate because i hate auto anything.

UAC,some users have claimed it caused problems with mods i find that unlikely but UAC is the first thing i disabled in Vista.

Running the game as Administrator?I run everything as Administrator.

Some claim that installing Steam to a location other than Program Files fixed their problem.

One very annoying behavior is the person that posts,"Never mind guys i fixed it."but doesn't share how they fixed it.

Here's a tutorial for Bsaopt.http://wiki.tesnexus..._BSA_Extraction

Are you using a body mod?I wonder what would happen if you installed a full body mod?

Just posting this in case it helps.

Go to Documents/My Games/Skyrim and open Skyrim.ini with WordPad/NotePad. Look for the [ARCHIVE] section, and if you see bInvalidateOlderFiles=0, change the 0 to a 1. If it's not there, add the line in, with the '1' in place. Save, close, and test.
