I have the Oblivion Game of the year edition for my PC. I want to use a Logitec duel action controller of get an X-box style controller to play Oblivion and Morrowind. But I can't seem to get it to work like the controller on the X-box. I love Bethesda Games and have played Oblivion on the X-box but want to use the mods. But I can't stand the keyboard and mouse system. Am I out of luck? or can I make a controller work on oblivion pc like it works on the x-box.
Thanks for any help.
I use a logitech rumblepad, which I believe is basically identical to your controller. I managed to get near flawless native gamepad support by editing my configuration:
In Oblivion.ini (my documents/my games/oblivion/oblivion.ini), find this section:
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6 iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2 iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1 fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000 fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000 iJoystickLookUpDown=6 iJoystickLookLeftRight=3 fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020 fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020
And replace it with this:
fMouseSensitivity=0.0027 ;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6 iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2 iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1 fJoystickMoveFBMult=3.0000 fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000 iJoystickLookUpDown=6 iJoystickLookLeftRight=3 fJoystickLookUDMult=0.1800 fJoystickLookLRMult=0.1800
This should get the left stick working for movement and the right stick working for look. Adjust fJoystickLookUDMult and fJoystickLookLRMult to change the sensitivity of the right analogue stick and get the aiming at a speed you're most comfortable with, unfortunately the aiming slows down considerably when your framerate drops, just like the game's terrible mouse lag.
Once this is done, start up the game and use the in-game options->controls menu, use the top slider to change from keyboard to joystick, and then assign your buttons according to how you want them.
This works for pretty much all the game actions, and works quite well. The main problem is that there is no menu access with a native setup. I'm hoping someone can modify the UI or use OBSE or something to get menu access with gamepads.
Hope this helps.

ricthemenotyou: If you don't want to toy with your .ini (I'm thinkin Zep's instructions will make that real easy by the way... might have to try that myself when I get to my gaming computer) there's a program called "Joy2key" uploaded on the Nexus File Servers (I know, I put it there). Its a freeware program, so it costs nowt, and allows you to emulate multiple keyboard & mouse commands to multiple layouts on a simple little .exe that doesn't even need to be installed.
Read the long description and the endorsements thread if you have trouble getting it working, as I didn't edit the original readme which was written by the Japanese author. I decided against uploading anything of mine with his files.
Good luck getting it working.

Anyway, if you have a Sixaxis I can walk you through setting it up, but it sounds like you'd prefer an Xbox type controller. I've never tried using a 3rd party controller... I did try the one from my Xbox at first, but I had issues with the left stick refusing to stay centered so as a result my screen would keep moving itself when I wasn't pressing the stick, and it was just too annoying to deal with. I like the PS3 controller better anyway; it's like ten pounds lighter and thus easier for me to hold.

Any help would be appreciated, much like the TC, I played Oblivion on PS3 and got it for the PC to use the mods. I'm way more accustomed to the game pad and cannot get used to the keyboard, I've been trying.
Edit: I just thought, I could probably use the USB charging cable for the PS3 controller? not sure... thanks again in advance.

My boyfriend uses a 360 usb controller. There is a simple program called x-padder or something that he just loaded up, clicked little boxes over an image of the controller, and it assigned whatever key he desired to the controller button he clicked. Really the simplest UI I've ever seen. You could also just buy one of the USB X-box 360 controllers, couldn't you? Or would that be just as much work...
So if you want to avoid hassle, and are used to a 360 controller, that's the route to go.

Well, I'm not sure why the people above couldn't get the Logitech Dual Action working properly with Fallout 3, my cordless rumblepad has been working great. I've been using the Logitech Profiler that comes with the controller (maybe it's because I updated it from Logitech's site).
But....
Now that I'm trying to use the FOMM I can't get the game to recognize my controller anymore(i.e. when I use the FOMM; it still works fine if I don't use it)...
Before using FOMM, I'd have the regular Fallout 3 executable as the file targeted for the profile. Trying to use FOMM, I've tried switching it to the mod manager executable but that doesn't work either.
I'm messing around with the 360 controller emulator linked to above(actually, it's an old link now and I'm using the newer one it points to), but it doesn't recognize some of the buttons on the rumblepad (the bottom two triggers). So I guess a fix to get that program to recognize the bottom two triggers would get the job done as well.

I'd get that because lot of profiles includng Oblivion.
Works with OBSE, but you have to set the profile as background.

I have the Logitech F310 USB Controller and I can't figure out how to get Oblivion to recognize the LT & RT buttons at all! Anyone know how to get them working? My Gamepad didn't come with any software. I've read a few posts about Logitech Profiler, some good, some bad IE Crashes. Anyone know if this can be downloaded? The controller works great in Skyrim and all the buttons are working, just nnot in Oblivion. I haven't even tried Morrowwind yet....
