Transferring saves and MODs to Steam/vanilla Skyrim folder?

First post! Cheers!

I'm trying to set a plan in motion, but fear there may be holes in it. My game recently experienced some bugs I can't tolerate, so now I'm looking to start clean. A friend set me up with the pirated version as a temporary; give me something to do while I was traveling. With the bugs, I figured it was high time to pay my dues and download it from the official source. Here's the plan:

1. Remove pirated Skyrim all together (excluding my save file).

2. Buy Skyrim on Steam with all add-ons.

3. Sync NMM with clean game from Steam (would I have to uninstall and reinstall NMM to sync to new game?)

4. Reinstall all mods.

5. Dump my old save is the proper place and continue on like nothing happened.

Again: the main questions are:

1. Should I uninstall NMM along with the pirated Skyrim and redownload it after my clean, Steam Skyrim is installed? Or does it not matter?

2. How would NMM "react" if Skyrim itself was deleted? Would all the green check-marks revert to the Red-X, uninstalled status?

3. Is it possible to keep my old save game intact? If so: What files(s) do I need to keep and transfer over to retain my save? Where do I find it/them? And where do I put it/them?

Edit: I've already bought the game. Just holding off on installing it.

Thanks!
