How do you completely edit the model of a weapon? I want to start over from scratch and make a new weapon model.

you also need to locate and download some tutorials on how to use said programs. They ain't easy to learn.
3dsmax is the best, however, it's also extremely expensive. Talkin a pricetag of about 3 grand.

max and blender are both free to use. Max is available at the same site as 3dsmax, and blender you can dl from blender.org
the tutorials, I'm afraid that you're on your own for those, I havent really researched any good ones.
You'll also need to DL and install compatibility scripts for these programs in order for them to handle the .msh format that dao uses. you can just go to dragonagenexus.com and type in a search for 3dsmax or blender.

Good luck!

Well, I did some hunting. And you probably know more about maya than I do (since I know pretty much next to nothing about that one....)
I found this. http://www.inivis.co...php/t-3238.html
They have a .msh import/export script which MIGHT work for the .msh format that DA uses. *crosses fingers*

I found that using the search maya .msh in google if that doesnt work, and you want to keep looking.

now can maya do bone settings, rigging, and whatnot? Cuz you'll need to add those in (preferably copy them from an existing set of items).
Oh wait... we're talking about weapons here. Sorry .... was thinking of clothes/armor.

You're also gonna need to know how to create the files that will allow the game to see them. here's a good place to start looking for the tutorials on how to do that.

I'll warn you in advance on this one tho. From what I can understand of it, it looks like a pretty nasty case of hemorrhoids. Unlike some of the other games, which are just drag and drop.... for DA you have to create special database files in order for the game to actually use and recognise the models and textures.

and here's another thread on how to extract existing models from the game (tho it requires the toolset) http://thenexusforum...3

and finally.... here's a simple tool that you can also use to extract meshes and texture files... tho it only works on vanilla items.
http://social.bioware.com/project/41/ (I dont know if this would also export the stuff that you would need for armors. But weapons, it should work. It does them as .obj's and .dds files.

I hope that this is some help to you
