Hi all,

like i have written into the topic, is there a way of changing the hairstyle of my char? I don't like to create a new one and start a new game. In Fallout 3 i could change all things during my playthrough, so is there a hairdresser out there?

A mod would be fine too, if the game has no possibility of this.

Thanks
Paxan

Great minds as they say  the past couple of nights I've been thinking God I wish I hadn't chosen that.

The short answer is: Only with the Toolset. (Which I've never gotten installed correctly, so can't give you the real details on how to accomplish it. )

I've seen the instructions though (on this site, even!) Basically you create another charater with the feature in question the way you wish you're other character's was, then copy the appropriate vaules from that new character's .das record file over to the older one's, and replace the .png portait as well.

Here's the text:

1. create a new character in game - with a new better face ;) & save the game.

2. run DragonAgeToolset.exe and find .das file of your new saved game.
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Characters\Daylen
(Daylen it is my character's name)

3.in .das file find:
SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR \ SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR \ SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH
and copy value numbers

4. open .das file of your old character & find the same line:
SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR \ SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR \ SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH
now you can paste value and save changes in DragonAgeToolset

5. at the end i cut new Daylen.jpg Daylen_portrait.png & paste this in my old character's folder.

Good Luck!

I suppose I've run out of excuses to open the toolset, I think I've got instructions for fixing it before using it

I just looked at that mod, and I think it's easier doing it in the toolset! This is how my b/f taught me to do it and it's really easy, it takes less than a minute, really. It's very similar to Thandal's method!

Save the character you want to CHANGE (the ugly one) as a QUICK SAVE! Then go and make a new character you’ll have to start it in the origin part but as soon as you can, do another quick save of the pretty character. Make sure they are quick saves. Close out of the game. Open the toolset and go to Menu\File\Open File and go to My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Characters and find the folder of the name of the pretty face you want to use, click on the folder and find the folder that says Quick Save. Inside that folder you’ll see a file named: savegame.das. Click on that file and the toolset you might need to click on the Open button. You’ll see a yellow triangle down in the panel below in the log window, don’t worry about it if is says: gff file contains references.shared references will no longer be shared.

Now back to the toolset, after you clicked on the savegame.das file, it opened up the toolset. You’ll see Top Level Struct and about 9 lines of different Savegame. On mine it’s the 3rd one, you want to find savegame playerchar. Click on the + in front of it and you’ll look for savegame_playerchar_char and expand that one by clicking on the + in front of it. Scroll down almost to the end and look for savegame_player_morph. Right click on that line and Select Copy. Now go back up to File\Open File and you should still be in the character window, just backup until you see your list of characters and find the ugly one. Go into that folder, find the quick save and click on the savegame.das and open the toolset. Another tab will open and say savegame.das next to the one currently open. Repeat the process: savegame playerchar then expand go to savegame_playerchar_char expand and find the savegame_player_morph. Right click on that line and choose Paste Value, then hit Save All. And you’re done! When you go back into the game your ugly character will now look like the new one!

Yup, it's a malfunctioning piece of crap. I have just uninstalled it for 3rd time and will go through the usual procedures...

Thanks for all your answers. I will try the ones without using toolsets.
But there is only the way to change the whole face, right? So i can't use my favourite character in it to change from "long blond held back" hair to a "long blond open" hairstyle? The way like you can have it in Fallout 3.

If the toolset worked as well as the face changer we would have no end of mods to play with. I installed the python, extracted the face changer, picked the source and destination and it was done. Works as advertised, imagine that

Thanks DarkeWolf  Y'all should try it (notice I didn't say guys lol, it's good to be southern  )
