Testing mods I create

What are the best ways to test a mod I create? When I release a mod I obviously do not want to have mods that crash. I recently released a mod and before I did that I loaded the mod . I tested it in game by going to the mod walking around the perimeter of each room and attempting to open all doors, operating chests, and visiting areas where I have NPCS spawning. I also tested thing with NPCs to see what would happen. as my mod contained an arena I wanted to make certain that when my npcs dropped from a cage that they would not get killed by the fall. I am curious if this is the best way to test mods.

I understand that if the game were to crash during load screens it means that a mod is missing a master file.
