kayinv - there's a work around for the sexy mage robes re-skins. if you put them on a male model and dye them, it will stay dyed when you put them on your female character.
tried that for the tevinter robe and it worked.

@kayinv: The dyes only support BioWare materials currently (DAO, DAA, and DLC). If you find one of these "vanilla" items that throws the material error, please report it here so I can fix that, as I'd consider that a bug.

As for custom items, a lot of authors make their own materials either to change base values or to avoid the material tint color (or to use their own tint). I've been guilty of both. My hope is that now that this tool exists to let people control tint colors, item authors will consider using default materials and providing tint maps more often. For custom items that have tint maps but use custom materials, I will slowly be adding recognition/support of those materials to the mod.

It's been a while since I used Winterforge but I know of no way it could actually re-tint a custom item texture unless that custom item already provided tint maps and the Winterforge was aware of the item's custom materials, which is basically the same requirement here. If anyone can provide a counter-example to that, I'd love to study it...

As for robes/clothes, most of the vanilla robes and clothing have tint maps and can be dyed already.

Well, I guess I should point out the mod I was talking about.

http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1342

Very popular mod as of late, and the robes that I was able to re-color through the winterforge was the re-skinned apprentice and mage robes. I thought that despite the fact that these armors were reskinned, that I would still be able to color them with the dye system. However, despite being a reskinned vanilla armor, it doesn't work (the apprentice/mage robes from this mod aren't stand-alones).

BUT, I can recolor them through the winterforge - which is just weird as hell. I did it as an experiment fully expecting it not to work, but you CAN change these robes by basically turning them into another robe with a different color set. As to how that differs from your dye system, I don't really know, but it's an interesting conflict nonetheless.

Ok. Stupid question - how this thing work?

I have bought it - it is amulet type item I put it on and then what ? Nothing happens.

@silencer81: You "use" the item on whichever toon you want to dye, just like a potion. After your toon uses the item (if you are in the inventory screen then you will have to leave the inventory screen before the item is actually used) it should pop up a dialogue based menu.

@silencer81: Heh.. yeah sounds like you had the dye items from the Leliana Item Set mod. I'll be releasing an update of that mod soon that's compatible with the UDK instead of the dye system I had previously used there :)

@kayinv: I tried out the mod you linked (v1_21) and I was able to dye the new unique robes it adds to Bodahn. I was also able to dye all of the vanilla DAO robes (Archon, Senior Enchanter, etc.) with the apprentice and enchanter robe replacers installed (v1 and v1_1).

Actually the only thing I couldn't dye was the armor of legion replacer, which makes sense since the default armor of legion did not have a tint map and the author of that mod did not provide one for their new mesh.

So I guess I would need more details about exactly what is happening in your setup to know why it isn't working for you. EDIT: Specifically - version of game (1.02 or 1.03/awakening?), name of robe item being dyed, character gender/race, has the item ever been affected by other mods (winterforge, etc.?), do you get any errors when trying to dye the robe (unrecognized material?) or does it just not work... um... I guess that would do for starters :)

Hmm, well I downloaded the mod before the vendor version you have. I'll have to re-download them and see how that works out.

Excellent mod! I hope this mod sets the new standard in custom armor tint/color....would LOVE to see the other custom armor to be compatible with this thing!

EDIT: about the custom color sets, is it possible to add more that 5? like 10? So we can save 10 different custom config and use them throughout the game? That would be epic. :)
