Hello, all. Not quite sure this is the right forum for this.. I've been playing/modding with Morrowind for awhile now. Morrowind's non-linear gameplay has always appealed to me. Every aspect of the game gives you so much control, and adding new content to the game is not that painful, either. I guess most of Morrowind's fans/modders have moved on to Oblivion, by now. I felt left out by this, mainly because my Geforce MX -crapix- card wouldn't let me play Oblivion, until recently. My new graphics card has now allowed me to play Oblivion in all its glory. But the gameplay strikes me as far more linear than Morrowind, which defeats the entire appeal for Elder Scrolls.. atleast for me. THe way the new dialouge menus work seem to be the worst part. With Morrowind, making a dynamic and interesting story through its text-based dialouge box could be very immersive. I don't know how the same could be done with Oblivion. So, I think I'm going to go back to Morrowind. I've been wondering if anyone else has felt the same way?

Oh.. So this topic isn't completely worthless. Here's some screenshots for a MOD I've been working on. I'm sure a Final Fantasy VII MOD is probably frowned upon here, but if anyone's interested I'd like to hear what you think. I'll post some more information if that is desirable.

Yeah actually, lots of Morrowind modders are sticking with it or working on both games equally. I wouldn't worry too much about it dying out.

I wouldnt worry about it. I still see new mods being released all the time for Morrowind. Im sure things will keep up for a long time yet.

My personal experience was that i hadnt touched Morrowind for a long time, but then when i heard about Oblivion coming out i fired up Morrowind again and played the main quest and started doing Bloodmoon. Then Oblivion came out and i ran out and bought a copy.

Installed on the computer... *crash*... discovered problem with GeForce4 9600 because its not supported, downloaded Oldblivion which made everything quite nice (if a little poor with frame rate in places, but overall tolerable). When i started the game i was completly taken aback with its amazing graphics and the start was quite good. However, while it had some (very) nice features but some things stood out for me that turned me off.

1) The interface is terrible compared to Morrowind. The 'paper doll' in your inventory does not show your full person, and its so obvious it was designed for use with a console that it isnt funny. Fair enough if they want to make a game that console users can play but why make it so clunky that it degrades the appeal on the PC?

2) Graphics... if some talented people on the we can produce oldblivion to enable older graphics cards to run the game (And quite decently from what ive seen), then why cannot the produces also do the same? *conspiracy theory mode ON* - maybe they are in league with the graphics card manufacturers to push the sales of their hardware......

There are other things as well.

But the bottom line is, i played Oblivion for a while, did a lot of the main quest, did some extra things, got bored, and went back to Morrowind. Hell, if i had a copy of Daggerfall id probably play that as well.

Also, as the subject was also about Modding, while i have never released any mods, i tinker quite a bit with the toolset and have a highly customised world which combines many mods that i enjoy and i find even with the main quest and two expansions completed i still cant stop playing the game.

So thank you Oblivion for restoring my interest in Morrowind.

the modding for MW will not die. If you're a good modder google for Tamriel rebuilt the guy's over there
trying to rebuild whole tamriel they divided up into MW mods and OB ones and they really appreciate every help.

i think the modding in morrowind not really really died, modders like Timeslip working something in morrowind, which make you see distand LOD like in OBlivion, it looks quite interesting see vvardenfell the way we look cyrodiil like in oblivion...the mod still Beta but we can download the beta version anyway here's the link http://www.elderscro...howtopic=480254

Finally someone who thinks the same! Im right back to good old morrowind, i mean oblivion is fun... but its not the same. Its just not morrowind i guess. The text is both addictive to read and has endless possibilities, LGNPC mods are a must for morrowind.

Yeah, right now I'm running Morrowind with the Vivec Expansion, Balmora Expanded, Better Bodies, Better faces, Expanded DB, Assasins Armory, Expanded Mournhold, Children of Morrowind, and Morrowind Complete which gives you the ability to craft items, cook, make poison, etc. I mean, I have a bar in Mournhold where there are musicians playing time-piece music, and the patrons are sitting, drinking, dancing, etc. I hate to bag on Oblivion, but these mods have way more life in them and make the world seem more realistic than Oblivion vanilla. Oblivion looks pretty, but it's nigh on impossible to role-play in that game since it feels more like a FPS. You want immersion, DL those mods and you'll get so much immersion you'll puke. In a good way

Trust me, MW modding certainly hasn't died. The official's forums MW mod section is still buzzing with activity, thank god.

I myself have also returned to MW, but only because of technical issues with OB. Oh, Nero_Zeromus, that mod is looking excellent, well done!

Morrowind is a fantastic game. Oblivion is also a fantastic game. They are just different. If every TES game was the same, we'd always know what to expect. I don't think that it's the fact that either one of the games is more Linear than the others. The addition of the Fast Travel system really killed it for a lot of people. Another thing that was a terrible blow in my opinion was the simplification of the armor system. No more Right Glove, Right Pauldron... that's not terrible... but i truly disliked the "Heavy" and "Light" only system. That killed a lot of the realism and feeling for me. You can sneak just as well in mithril chainmail as you can leather.

Oblivion was not released for people with decrepid computers and aging graphics cards. Like Morrowind, most of us probably had to upgrade their machine in order to handle the new beast that was released on us. I had to finally upgrade my ancient Athlon 2500+ that had served me well for many a year. Oblivion was built to be a "Next Generation" game. That meant it was for the newest (or newer) hardware releases.

Now for the mod scene... Morrowind is just older and more mods have been released for it. Oblivion is a more complex system than Morrowind was. There is a price to pay for expensive graphics, voice overs, and improved AI (even if just slightly... they still cannot jump anything). In the next year or so, expect a TON of oblivion mods to be released with a lot fo the stuff we are looking for. And maybe Bethesda will be kind and release us the many quests and personalities that gave Morrowind the awe-inspiring atmosphere that had many of us hooked for years.

For Oblivion, I'd like to see new armor sets and FAR more expansive dungeons. Even on increased difficulties, the dungeons just aren't any fun. The "hand-crafted" dungeons that we were told about on the E3 demos are quite pathetic and only a couple of them actually had dangerous traps and difficult puzzles and passageways. I'd enjoy a SERIOUS dungeoncrawl.

For Morrowind, maybe a buffed interface. It still feels kinda flimsy, despite the many mods released for it.

Morrowind's modding scene is definitely not deceased. I still actively build and script for Morrowind. It's just such an easy and fantastic place to test and play the many ideas that i get throughout the day. I look at the mod sites and there are still many people discovering everyday all the potential that ol' MW still has. The excellent thing about Morrowind's engine is that it's VERY easy to modify and texture/models are easily integrated. Gone are the days of having to take apart a game to change the simplest thing. No... MW modding will NOT die... not for a long damn time. I look forward to both the new Oblivion and Morrowind mods. Have fun in Tamriel! I know I am!
