I discovered a few fun things today. Did a little Autosave imitation of Groundhog Day and ran a few times through Summitmist Manor with Cassie.

For one thing, Matilde seems to be afraid of the men. Whenever she and a male guest were the last two alive (no matter if it was Nels she hates, Primo she likes, or Neville she loves), she'd conclude that the other was the murderer, but would then beg my character to protect her. Chart that down as part of the "who-kills-who" investigation.

Secondly, things turn out a little differently if you do not gain any of the guests' trust. Sure, everyone and anyone in the Sanctuary suggests that you talk to the folks and get them to trust you, and most people follow suit. Trouble is, if the last surviving guest has high enough a disposition, they trust you to the point that they conclude that a hidden assassin must have been doing the deed the entire time! Then you get silly things like Neville axing the door and whatnot.

If you never gain their trust, the last one standing tends to get— violent. Here's the funky thing: in my last experimental run, Primo was the last guest alive and he fingered Cassie as the assassin (gee, fancy that!), then went at her with a steel dagger. Cassie smirked and then took him down, but still got the bonus because she was 'undetected'!

@ Rhydderch Hael: I once shot someone in the face as they were saying "I've fought Mudcra.." It went into his mouth and almost came out the other side of his head.

Mind you, Groundhog Day was not the final run-through Cassie has with this quest. I deleted the Autosave and resumed my normal questing with the Summitmist party still left unattended. I still want to pick up the Staff of Worms and the Skull of Corruption before heading in.

Matilde: "...one less Dark Elf in the world. That's a good thing!"
Cassie: "What do you mean? Dovesi is standing right behind you."
(Matilde turns around and sees Dovesi, eyes glowing with a baleful purple haze)
Dovesi: "I serve the Worm Queen!"
(Dovesi wields the Skull of Corruption. A second Matilde appears out of a red cloud)
(Evil Matilde locks her fingers around Matilde's throat)
Evil Matilde: "I can't stand intolerant people!"

Nice, but nothing quite beats hearing an elf bandit say "Now, you will know—" then make a pained exclamation as he's thrown back by an arrow striking his chest.

Lol, this tread made me lough out loud for real

I love that pic. DB "who done it" quest has to be one of the most thought out, best scripted quests in the vanila Oblivion. Wonder where he (scripter) came up with idea of killing all the people in the office house :ph34r: He sure seems to have taken lot of effort and care to make it

My last experiment before completing the quest for real involved the Staff of Everscamp and the Wabbajack. Wasn't as fun as I hoped, mainly because the transformed creature was more interested in attacking my character rather than any of the guests— even if the guests were viciously attacking the goblin or ogre or whatnot.

I managed to get it to work, however. The trick is to target the farthest Everscamp with the Wabbajack, then turn quickly invisible before the bolt can hit the creature. In this case, the faster effect of an invisibility potion was preferable to a spellcast. I have a brief video (which I may never bother to convert and upload) of Primo getting flattened by a Daedroth.

The final run of the quest, the one Cassie did "for real", involved the Staff of Worms and the Skull of Corruption. It went all horribly wrong, though. Neville was the last one standing, and he fingered Cassie as the killer. When he attacked, Cassie whipped out the Staff of Worms and reanimated Primo, who had the Skull of Corruption on his body. But every time Primo shot the Skull at Neville, nothing happened. No Neville-clone appeared, despite him getting hit several times.

In fact, the only time the Skull actually worked was when an errant shot struck Cassie! All of a sudden, my character was battling a Legion soldier in armor and a young Imperial blonde in a red velvet gown— and the girl was causing much more damage (Cassie really regretted having that Damage Strength poison in her inventory)!

In the end, Cassie slapped the Steel Shortsword into Matilde's cold, dead hands and used the Staff of Worms once more. Neville went down with a stab in the back— not the finest way for a Legionary to go down (then again, what kind of a soldier thinks that a murder investigation is the perfect time to catch up on his beauty sleep?)

All of this, strangely enough, never forfeited the bonus. Cassie remained "undetected" the entire time. This quest in general needs a lot more work. Killing someone with a fireball as they stand all alone in the basement will expose you as the killer; but reanimate dead people to fight for you or transform a little Scamp into an Ogre in full view of the surviving guests, and nobody suspects you of foul play!

Okay.

First time I ever did the quest was with a male Breton Spellsword. I didn't talk to any of the guests (besides Matilde, who talks to you first.) and I wore the Shroud Armour with the hood. I waited till I got chances to off them one by one, oddly leaving Matilde for last. She looked at me and said:

"We're the only ones left! That means... you.. you're-"

It was awesome. While she was talking I drew my sword and slooowwlly walked towards her. When she turned to run, I got her in the back.

Second time I did the mission, I did it with a male Breton Assassin ( I like magic >_> ). I talked to all of them, raised there dispositions, then systematically begin killing them. The last two fought each other. Oddly enough, it was Matilde versus Neville.

Matilde won. Hurhurhur.

Third time, I played with a female Mystic Elf.. can't remember the class. Anyway, I went sword crazy and wacked all of them nicely, and stealthily, of course. (I love bonuses ;_; )

Fourth, with my present character, female Mystical Elf femme fatale named Natalia. She worked with her Deceiver's Finery and Sufferthorn... and Doeskin shoes... Yeah. Anyway, she got everyone to love her. First to go was Dovesi, the Dunmer. Nels went in a close second. Now everyone kinda points a finger toward Neville. The next one to go would be Matilde.

Primo got enraged. Ran up to Neville, punched him in the face. *Plop* Dead.

Primo's happy now, thinks the killer's been killed. I wonder if he got the chance to change his mind about Neville being the killer...

Heh. I had that happen to me.

I had two guys left, I believe it was the Imperial and the Nord but I'm not sure. He woke up, the Imperial, and ran to me. He was acting pretty crazy and he said," Only you and me left! That means..." He ran to get his armour on and ran downstairs and one hitted the Nord.

Chuckles.

He now acts psycho and rambles on about how we're free. He runs down into the basement to find a way out. I talk to him but he's still going on some wierd rant and isn't doing much.
I kill him and get all of the rewards.

That must be my favourite DB quest. Actually... DB's are my favourite quests so....
