Let's cure cancer with left-over hardware resources!

Recommended Posts

Hey, I recently discovered a project called "Folding@Home" (FAH). It is a contributed super-computer consisting of volunteers' computers and is used for finding cures for diseases like cancer, Huntington and Alzheimer. By installing their client on your computer, you'll aid their project using computer power you're not currently using yourself. So, instead of wasting your expensive computer power doing nothing at all while sleeping or checking Facebook, why not use it to help find a cure for cancer?

You can read more at their home page: http://folding.stanford.edu/

When running this program, your computer is getting you points based on how much it has contributed to the project. You can also create groups and gather points there. This gave me an idea; Nexusmods mostly consists of gamers. Stereotypical gamers usually have some kick-ass number-cruncher computers running 24/7 just to download torrents or Steam games while they sleep. What if Nexusmods created and announced an official FAH group to get as many kick-ass number-crunchers as possible at discovering a cure for cancer and other diseases while not doing anything else anyway?

Hell, maybe we could number-crunch us all the way to the very top of the toplist of groups? ^^ Think about it :)
