gtx 980 sli i5-4690k bottleneck?

Recommended Posts

I just got a gtx 980 and was wondering if, in case I ever wanted to go sli, would an i5-4690k bottleneck that idea?

Also, where could I pick up cheap windows, and can I just install it via usb? I saw sites that are selling windows 7 for around 60 bucks but they say download only, I'm not sure whether that is safe or not...

Its simple, if the game is CPU bound, you'll hit a bottleneck. If its pretty well optimized, you wont. Unless you plan on gaming on a 4k resolution monitor, I don't know why you'd need SLI 980s. A single 980 just chews up any game @ 1440p. Especially if you overclock it. They're pretty good cards for overclocking, they got more head room than 780TIs.

A lot of these crummy console port games are CPU bound, meaning the CPU does too much work that should have been offloaded to the GPU.

That cpu is not going to bottleneck anything out right now. Intel cpus are overkill, in a good way. I mean, seriously, an i3 at this point can outperform an amd 8350 in Watchdogs, a multicore heavy game.
