I am currently running a 6 year old Compaq Presario, with a "3000+ AMD sempron processor", 512MB of RAM, and 160 GB hard drive, and with no graphics card (just a video adaptor)

would I be better off buying a new one or upgrading the old one? my budget will possibly run at about 300-500$ and I am currently leaning toward a new rig
