With CPU's you get a 'platform' level of performance.

Can you explain this, and how you determine what the platform levels are? I don't see this with CPUs, but I normally use enthusiast grade processors. (2011 for example)

Regardless the method of measurement/benchmark you get a level of performance that is consistent with the manufacturer and CPU generation that is very close SKU to SKU.

You can scale the CPU and it remains consistent with others of similar lineage.

That did not answer the question. Unless you are trying to tell me that because both the i7-640M and i7-970 are both Intel, i7 etc etc they they will have the same level of performance?

I can promise they will have no where near the same level of performance, and it goes far beyond one is a mobile CPU and one is not. I know that most of the 4xxx I7s will not come close to the performance my i7 has.

This would tend to support what was being said.

This shows what have been stating for months.

There is a 5 FPS Delta SKU to SKU

In TESV @1080p

The cost delta from C i5 - 4440@ $170.00  to C i7 4960X @ $1028.00  $838.00 cost delta LGA 1150 -  C i5 - 4440 to LGA 2011 C i7 - 4960X with a 5 FPS performance delta.

I'm just stating facts.

I know you're stating facts, but passing off how processors handle Skyrim as how they will handle everything is inaccurate. I also never said you were wrong when I asked you for clarification you assumed that, and started in insulting me. Not everyone thinks the same way, and I can promise that if I was unsure what you meant more would have been also.

The point I was trying to make with my last post is that the i7-640M and the i7-970 are the same generation IIRC. There are both i7s, but one is a dual core and one is a hex core. One is a mobile CPU and one is a desktop CPU. The mobile i7 will not hold a candle to most of the i5s and is probably closer to low end i3 performance, but it is still an i7.

I'm going to stay along the lines of the Original lines of the Thread. Desktop up -grades. A better Skyrim.

Were mobile platforms mentioned once ?  Do not read something in to a subject that was never stated.

I'm not going to allow thread crapping.  It is the O/P's thread.

OP sorry for the mess.

I was hoping my friend would have answered what motherboard he upgraded to a FX-8350 on that has given him nothing but problems. I have not gotten a reply.

I don't expect an answer if you meant what you wrote.

While the thread here only mentions Skyrim it is extremely likely that the PC will be used for far more then just Skyrim.

You mentioned that all cpus have a platform level of performance. This includes mobile.

Then why did you start insulting when asked to clearify?

Was ignoring it because you clearly had an axe to grind:

Your Signature  "I will not tolerate harassment from users that refuse to believe the kind of performance I get with Skyrim. I am willing to back up my claims, but an agreed upon method would be required."

When you have a fixation on "Enthusiast CPU's" and the realty is disconnected from the pragmatic truth. If you are insulted by the facts, it is what is relevant.  Do you have anything empirical that supports your anecdotal opinion ?

I know that most of the 4xxx I7s will not come close to the performance my i7 has

The above chart was as clear as it gets.... 117 FPS is 117 FPS

And probably that 5 FPS difference is due to having difference clock speeds on CPUs. If they were all running at constant 4.0 I'm pretty sure the difference will come down to 1FPS, and we can safely say that would be the margin of error.

This shows you are the one with the axe to grind. I asked because I wanted to know. I said that I normally look at those CPUs to show that I don' know much about other ones. As for my signature I do get a lot of harassment, because people unwilling to believe it for various reasons. I added it to show that I will not tolerate it like I used to.

By replying you have also shown that you do care, and that people can not believe what you write.

I'm not the one that is thread crapping.
