So, I've reloaded Vilja after months without her in the game. Was in Riften and Vilja mentions that the Balimund the local smith had lost his Ring of Smithing to some bandits. I dutifully fetched the ring, but when I next get back to Riften I find that Balimund has suffered a death blow from Vampire/death hound raid on the town. Now, I've got this ring and quest that I have no way of completing.

Don't worry, it's just a radiant quest that doesn't lead to further quests.
