im curently in the dalish elf part when you get threu the forrest by getting the grand aoks branch you enter some ruens wher the wolfs hide out is but i found some shamber whit an altar and a jug and a water pool and i cant figure out what im sepose to do whit them so i can get into the next chamber

With the jug and water, you have a codex that tells you what you need to do.
I don't remember what codex number it is, but you take the jug from the pool, fill the jug with water, step away from the pool, step to the altar, place the jug on the altar, kneel and pray, take a single sip of water from the jug, take the jug from the altar, and return the water to the pool.
The way should then be opened.

Thank you on the directions. I followed them and the spirits attacked and I defeated them. However, the large door to the right of the altar still says I need a key. Can anyone suggest where to find the key. Do I need to go back up and fight some more skeletons while looking for it?

The Ritual IS the Key. The door opens automagically when you've completed it. Not sure which step you're missing/doing incorrectly.

I was messing up due to not recovering the codex yet for the ritual. I kept getting beat up by the skeletons. Anyway, got the codex, went back to the altar and did it right this time... thanks for help..take it easy.....
