First time using SKSE and mods in general

Hello people! I'm hoping someone can help with the problem I am having. As you can tell I am a newbie to modding in general, but I have watched videos and read many forums and descriptions so I have a, again, a general understanding. Anyway this is my situation, I am using the mod organizer for my skyrim mods. the skyrim I have has all the DLC including the high resolution texture pack. I wanted to use SKYUI so installed the skse into my mod organizer, only the script and the .exc and .dll files into the skyrim game not the data file. also skyrim is also not in the program files(x86).

Running the skse archive file by itself does not cause problems, I also installed an audio mod to test the organizer and game and everything seems fine. The problem occurs when a mod needs skse.

I go into a game and I cannot move or move the camera I can pause but no inventory option. I tried using the immersive hud and the same problem occurs. If anyone can help me in this situation, I would much appreciate it.

Thank you for you time.

Are you opening the game using the SKSE launcher? You can tell if you have SKSE installed when you hit ESC and look in the lower left hand corner of the screen. It will show your current SKSE version along with your current version of Skyrim.

If you're unsure, look in your Skyrim folder with the main game .exe file and you should see another Skyrim launcher titled "Skyrim (SKSE)" Make sure you are always launching the game from that.

And in MO case it means running skse_loader.exe trough MO (or from MO created SKSE shortcut), not directly from Skyrim main folder.

Well here is first problem, MO doesn't "Run" Or manage SKSE.

Think of skse as another application, a shortcut if you will to skyrim. IT injects it's OWN code into skryim that allows it to do more cool stuff the mods in MO needs to function.

So whatever you did with SKSE and MO, undo it. You don't need to. When you install SKSE you WANT to run it from your steam/steamapps/common/skryim folder. UNpack everything there.

Now MO, you can create a launcher from MO, through your RUN dropdown. "Select edit" chose you excuitable as the shortcut you have setup for SKSE. That's all you should ever have to do with for the two.

Now the problem your having seems... like something else.

Also the x86 isn't going to matter much as long as you understand your file pathing and how you have it set up. Some mods come in the file format as FOMOD.... You need NNM for this. I'm sure you already have if you have MO, if no you'll need it. BECAUSE MO does not have the ablitity to understand FOMAD's. IT uses NNM as a bridge to understand them.

When you install SKYUi with MO you get an error message, and that's fine ignore it. Continue with install as normal. MO doesn't have the ability to detect SKSE in your data folder because it can only "See" Mods in particular formats. SKSE is an application format, so it ignores it. It's okay it will work as intended.

I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish in the archives, but you really shouldn't mess with those things unless instructed to by a mods installation process or know exactly what your doing.

For a first time user, I suggest you JUST use NMM. Get a feel for things and upgrade to MO at a later date. NMM is for your every day user, and works perfectly. When you start getting into MO and what it can do it's because you need a function NMM can't provide and need more control over files. If were you, I'd scrub everything. Scrub it all, reinstall and do it with NMM this time. When you ready and have learned more jump into MO, because MO goes without saying you know what your doing.

That stuff takes a while to learn, cause believe it or not there is A LOT to learn about modding, and stability and god knows it's a headache. NMM relieves that headache for basic users and dumbs every down. It's a really good place to hope on. Good on you for researching before hand, but walk before you run. Or your gonna keep running into problems like this.

@ Jayw21...MO does do FOMOD's

IN MO (top row of Icons) click the last Icon "tools" Click the "Plugins " tab...you will see 2 headings for FOMOD, "FOMOD installer" click that, and make sure both are set to true. "Enabled & Prefer". All my FOMODs Run and i do NOT have NMM installed.

=================================

TO OP (DsD)...Do not try to Use MO to install SKSE...NO mod manager can or will install SKSE properly. Use the Installer from the SKSEsilverlock site , or install it manually into the "Skyrim" folder , not the Data folder.

EDIT:..OK yes you can have Mo install SKSE ( I did) but it is a little more involved, i did it so I can track the overwrites to the Scripts from SKSE, not entirely necessary , I can explain it ..short version...Drop the files that go in the Skyrim folder by hand, then extract Scripts , Create a ZIP file of the Script folder, then install that ZIP as you would any mod IN MO...:)
