Yes i get the crap scared out of me when im playing doesnt matter if its in the morning or night. i get scared when i turn and right there theres a zombie or someones head just sitting there!

ive been playing with Oblivion for awile now and i do have to agree, the ambient's is great, especially with a killer surround sound system. Some times hering a zombie or a troll coming from behind me startle's me, sometimes.

Given the number of mods for removing things like spiders, I would imagine a number of people might have fears related to playing the game. The fact that someone goes and makes this sort of topic, then belittles people for responding however is unacceptable. I bet you feel like a big man now you conceited male without a father.

I dont find it really scary, with my enchanted weapon and spells. When something jumps me I just send it to Sithis. And life detect is always there.

I mainly get startled:
When I'm in Oblivion (realm, with Sigil Towers, that one), and Dremoras say something like, "Open wide!", and I didn't see or hear them, I jump
When a wraith screams in my ear before combat, I jump then too
When zombies attack! (without warning)
Some others. I forget.

Now, when I'm scared:
When I'm going through a dungeon, and my sister comes in and yells boo, I yell, "F*ck !", and chase her around the house.
When guards attack each other without reason... ok, that one is just weird.

But, mostly, I'm not scared of stuff. I was afraid of complting the main quest for Morrowind (Holy poo, Dagoth-Assassins!), but Oblivion doesn't scare me anymore, because I realized it's just a game after going through the prison dungeon (and had some pretty... fun... dreams afterward!).

Scary? PSHHHHHHH, the zombies and undead in this game are NOTHING compaired to the undead, demons, and ambience of Doom 3. Now that was creepy...

But in what way is a game different from a film that can scare you, Peregrine? It's just a film but it can be enormously disturbing, even when you know there was a film crew of hundreds sitting the same side of the cameras you are and 90% was done in the edit process anyhow. I mean there aren't many films that do that scare me but there are moments. Don't Look Now is one that springs to mind, when the little girl in the red cloak finally turns around.

It's mostly different in the execution of it. True horror (as opposed to just shock value) takes a lot of difficult setup work, and is all in what you don't show. I find 95% of "scary" movies to be boring and completely not frightening, so I have to wonder a bit about the sanity of people who hide in fear of them.

Oblivion just isn't a scary game. "OMG I SAW A ZOMBIE!!! TURN THE LIGHTS ON!!!!" just shouldn't be frightening unless you're having trouble separating the game and reality.

Huh? The person who started the topic hasn't been back to reply to it at all...

And why is it unacceptable? It's simple truth, if Oblivion is actually scaring you, you're blurring the line between fantasy and reality far too much. Monsters in a video game are just too unrealistic to be scary in any other situation.

But I've been in The Cradle. Nothing in Oblivion comes close to that.

Amen to that. The Cradle was AWESOME. It was amazingly immersive. When I first saw the "residents", I had been examing something on the ground (I forget what), and I looked up to see it staring at me. Then I ran. It was awesome.


Oblivion rarely startles or scares me...well, sometimes when I don't know anything is there and a critter just pops up at me. Or when a stupid mudcrab attacks me when I'm not paying attention...but that's just embarassing.

Oblivion scares me not, maybe surprise me from an unsuspecting monster attacks before I react first..

You want scary/disturbing? Try the Silent Hill games and see the movie...now that sh*t can get to you.

After seeing cliff racers in morrowind, nothing can scare me anymore...

You`ve got that right. I remember when I was playing Morrowind, especially when travelling to Ghostgate using that foyada near Balmora. There were tons and tons of cliff racers there and I got more than several times killed there (on lower levels, of course) thanks to these bloody birds/racers/cliff racers, whatever. After a while, whenever I heard some cliff racer in the vicinity, I would run as fast as I could away from that place.
