shane65 Posted December 19, 2014 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Ok so I got a new gtx 980 for my system just got it back yesterday. it loads fine without any mods but if i install just one mod it crashes. I tried uninstalling skyrim and re installing it next I tried deleting a mod to see if its the mods then re installing it. It still crashes at main menu. I have all the best hard wear on the market but i don't know what went wrong. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bben46 Posted December 19, 2014 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Not much info to go on - but my first guess is, - assuming you already had the game working previously. you forgot to reset the skyrim.ini so it could use your new graphics card. The ini is based on the hardware configuration of your computer - the first time you start the game, it looks to see what you have and sets the video according to what it finds - IT will not check again. Assuming Win7 - go to C:\Users\your user name\my documents\my games\Skyrim You should see 2 ini files there - Skyrim.ini & SkyrimPrefs.iniRename then ( so you will have a record of any changes you have mad to your ini files) to something like 0ldSkyrim.ini and oldSkyrimprefs.ini Now start the game - you should get the screen that says it is checking your video, then saying what resolution it will run. This is where it reads your hardware and creates those ini files based on what it finds. As soon as the game starts, make a save and it will remember those settings from then on.
