hopefully it's ok to talk about SI in this one too...

so, what annoys me is that, upon becoming the mad god, ruler of all the shivering isle, it's still trespassing to go into the duke of mania's private quarters! (I became duke of dementia).

I own the damn palace! and my very own guards fine me for going into part of my own palace? it's absurd! never mind the fact I cant go around tormenting whoever I wish...

also, why, when I become the due of dementia, and complete the rest of the quest, do I end up with a longer duration spell for summoning the golden whatevertheyare's, and a set of the mania aligned golden armour?

surely, alligning myself with dementia should give me a set of the dark armour, and a longer duration spell for summoning the dark guards?

Haven't read everyone else's or I'd get too wound up, just wanted to mention a few I've found realitively early in the game:

The game often treats you like a moron, telling you every little thing to do: 'I've arrived. Now I should find the thing I've come to find' 'I've found the thing, now I should tell Bob who sent me to find it that I've found it' type messages every 30 seconds.

Most of the quests are very straightforward, and often tedious: go there, do that, report back. No moral ambiguities to confront, no real role playing in terms of deciding HOW to do the thing. Just kill the baddies, collect the loot, report.

Oh, and I just loooove how often the pop ups tell me what key I've used to open the door. Why aren't these messages semi- transparent and self canceling?

And more bugs than okeefenokee swamp: Rings that can't be equipped, sold or dropped, even though they are quest rewards. Characters that don't appear where or when promised. Tons of places you can get stuck, such as behind a crate or between two small rocks, where you can't jump out.

And tons of 'you can't go there, turn back' messages: never remember those from any other TES game.

And NPCs whose voices change several times during a single conversation. The beggars seem especially bad for this...

Infinite water isn't an option in this case

A nice example would be the 'Whom Gods Annoy' quest journal entries when you have to go to the cave:
  • I've willingly accepted the staff from Rosentia. The scamps are now under my escort. I should hasten to Darkfathom Cave and be rid of these annoying creatures.
  • I've arrived at Darkfathom Cave. I should proceed inside.
  • I've arrived at the shrine to Sheogorath. I should find the altar and place the staff near it.
  • I've placed the staff near the altar at the shrine to Sheogorath. The scamps seem pleased with their new home, and best of all have stopped following me. I should return to Rosentia with the news.

The color-by-the-numbers commentary of the quest journal does serve its purpose in re-orienting you if you should ever happen to quit a session, and then reload in the the middle of a quest. But I agree that it shouldn't be so blatant when it is thrown up in your face in a pop-up quest dialog window.

Of course, the Idiot-Arrow on the compass pretty much nixes the need for quest dialog entirely.

Thats true...most of the time, sometimes you've got to talk to someone to get the 'idiot-arrow'.
There's a mod to get rid of them but I don't remember what it is called.

I'm never clear on what quest the idiot arrow is pointing me towards at any given moment. I don't usually have anything marked as my active quest [or whatever its called], so the arrow is pointing the wrong way as often as not.

I do like being able to check the 'high points' of my dozen or so open quests by looking in the journal, but the onscreen babysitting makes the game feel less RPG, more more console walk through.

The rumors topic. Half of these rumors aren't rumors, they are facts about the environment and other things.

For example 'The natural borders protect us: Water to the south, mountains to the east...' and 'The Colovian Highlands <Insert fact about Colovian Highlands here>'. Or 'It's hard to complain about living in Chorrol, we have everything we need'. That's not a rumor, that's an opinion.

I too, dislike the way the game holds your hand all the bloody time. This was obviously meant for casual console gamers, not us hardcore PC users. I also wanna be at least the count of somewhere without having to use a mod to do so. Would count of Kvatch have been too much to ask for, Bethseda? (don't give 'em Ideas, or they'll make another pay-plugin...) (oh, and "idiot-arrow?" best name for a feature ever, imo)
