Problem with quest: Bloodline (Dawnguard DLC)

Hi so I was doing the quest Bloodline that requires me to escort Serana back to her home (the Castle Volkihar). I have discovered the place before starting the quest, not sure if that is what is causing the problem or not. I read that when she is halfway across the bridge Serana is supposed to stop and say something along the lines of staying quiet and that she is going to go her own way upon entering the castle. But she never stops so I can't open the castle door, the gate is opened but when I attempt to open the castle door nothing happens. When talking to Serana on the castle island there is a new talk option that says "This is your home?" but that's as close as I get. I was wondering if anyone out there knows how I can fix this problem. I have tried to reset the quest with the command prompt but nothing happens. If anyone knows how I could fix this quest problems that would be great. Thanks!

Ok, so I am still having the problem of gaining access to the castle. I've tried loading different character saves but no solution. Serana still doesn't stop on the bridge to gives her speech, but sometimes she says it at odd locations like before boarding to travel to the castle island or when I try going back to the cave that was in the previous quest. Upon traveling to the island there is a new talk option of "Is this your home?" but Serana just keeps following me. The gate is down at the castle but the door is not usable (hit E but nothing happens). The guard at the door has different speeches of Serana being back or saying that she has been gone a long time. I've tried downloading skyrim and dawnguard unofficial patches but that didn't fix the problem, neither did loading into the game with dawnguard dlc disabled and re-logging with it enabled. I've heard that maybe the mod order in NMM might be a cause, but that hasn't been a problem in the past. This is getting frustrating, if anyone else has other ideas of what may fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated (I'd rather not resort to re-downloading the game, but if that seems to be the only solution than I'll give it try, hopefully not lose all my progress).

Thanks.

Serana didn't give a speech on the bridge for me. I just took her up to the gate and the guard said "Open the gates! Lady Serana returns!" and then I went inside. Serana kept lagging behind so I used "summon" from the AFT commands to get her up to the gate.

um start a new game before you re-install. Most of the wrong stuff we do can be fixed. NMM for example if you install the mods that way you can remove them, an install them as many times as you like near automatically. Or you know, use the SKSE launcher, an make NNM not close when launched, an just leave NMM open downloading huge mods while you play.

AutoSaves an quicksaves are a bad idea just because of past Beth games, an the evidence of them being worse in Skyrim, at least the modded or heavy modded Skyrim. So I disabled all of them, it also increases load times to autosave, like in menu an travel/sleep. It's better an cleaner to just create new save games everytime. It helps if you get a watch ifl that has a timer, I got one so I just set it to beep every 30 min, an I get a save without forgetting.

Overwriting save games seems to be the only problem we can find about autosave, but I mean there was other theory that the game is busy doing stuff an that an the auto an quick are all competing for computer resources, hence the introduced corruption. Something like that.

Also as you install mods, an keep playing the same character, you pretty much break the game, I'd say if you change anything to start a new game, just to be safe, but I want to get into the 300-400 hour range with this play through. There are things that are only set once, when the new game is started, and without advanced scripting functions to cover those items, when you start changing stuff, you end up making a change that is ignored by the save game cause the data is already in the save game an isn't going to change, I haven't seen that happen in past games, thus the need to start new games when changing things is more important now, plus our increased love of the game an all that. You know wanting it to be right.

The quest is broken yo, there is no way to fix it. This isn't a big deal, just play it again, add some mods, clean some stuff up an keep going. I transfer my gold when I gota do that, an I use Racemenu to store the settings for the look of the character, yah you can actually do that, then there are pay to level an training mods, I'm about to upload a new one. Maybe that can turn into a legacy system.

So sell everything, write down your levels an skills if you want, install racemenu to store what your character looks like. Start a new game an change other stuff if you want. Put the gold you had into a container in the world or another mods container. Start it up again better than before. random start is a good one too, cause the first quest is disabled an instead you are put in random locations or places an there's over 400 of them. That's what I would do. I'd RP it in someway to explain it. Like the character died, or maybe I just wanted to do a better job or add mods, an such.

Yeah, I started playing an older character that was about the same level and did the quest successfully that I was stuck on my old character. I may just keep playing this character, or maybe do what you said Kimberj, and make the same type of character that was stuck and use mods to get back to the same progress. Thanks for the advice guys.
